'Picnic' to Open Tonight At Extension Center Players will open their third play of the year when it pre sents "Picnic" at 8 tonight in the Conference Extension Center. "Picnic" is a William Inge comedy-drama that tells the story of Hal Carter, a college football tramp, who arrives in a small Kansas town on a hot Labor Day and causes trouble in the lives of a handful of women. Carl Held plays the part of Hal. Action in Small Town The action takes place on the porch of a dowdy house in a small town, and in. the patch of backyard that separates it from a similar house. The story centers around the romance of Madge Owens and Hal. Marjorie Schnelle enacts the role of Madge. The romance of Rosemary, played by Elizabeth Ives, an d Howard, played by Clyde Gore, constitutes the counter plot. Other members of the cast are Virginia Witte as Mrs. Flo Pwens, Nancy Marshall as Millie Owens, Joan Campbell as Mrs. Potts, Cor liss Phillabaum as Alan Seymour, ' James Jimirro as Bomber Gutzel, Helen Cummings as Irma Kron kite, and Audrey Sassano as Christine. Is Broadway Show "Picnic" ran on Broadway at the Music Box Theater for 61 weeks and won the Pulitzer prize, the New York Drama Critics Cir cle Awa r d, the Outer-Circle Award, and the Theater Club Award. Joshua Logan, the director of the original stage production, is directing the Columbia Pictures movie version of the pla. Wil liam Holden, Rosaline Russell, and Kim Novak are starring in the movie. UCA Plans Retreat At Lodge Tomorrow University Christian . Association has planned a cabin retreat to be held from 1 p.m. to midnight tomorrow at the Ralph Watts Lodge on Tussey Mountain. The theme of the retreat will be "Fellowship with God," and the purpose is to study different methods of attaining fellowship through worship and prayex. Students planning to attend should register in 304 Old Main. The cost will be 50 cents. The, group will leave from behind Old Main at 1 p.m. tomorrow. Miss Joan Waineka, of Erie and New York City, will be the guest of the Wesley Foundation Metho dist Student Center today through Sunday. Miss Warneka has returned re cently from the Belgian Congo where she served as a short-term Methodist missionary. She will hold interviews over the weekend with persons inter ested in mission fields. Miss Warneka will direct the Foundation Square dance at 8 to night in the Wesley gymnasium. She will also be the guest speaker at the Sunday Evening Forum - to be held at 6:30 p.m. in the foun dation center.
