PAGE EIGHT Debate 8 Debaters Selected For Tourneys Eight members of the men's debate team have been selected for the debate tournaments at the University of Vermont and Muh lenberg College, Allentown, on Nov. 19. Two teams representing the University will debate the affirm ative against Vermont. George Haines, junior in education from Nottingham, and David Scott, junior in agricultural economics from Chatham, N.J., will comprise one team. Jonathan Plaut, junior in industrial engineering from Rockville Centre, N.Y., and Ed ward Klevans, junior in electrical engineering from Roaring Spring, will comprise the other. Representing the University at Muhlenberg will be an affirmative and a negative team. Carl Saper stein, senior in arts and letters fr o m Washington, D.C., and Thomas Muller, junior in business administration from Newark, N.J., will comprise the affirmative team. The Vermont tournament is an annual trip for the men's debate team. The major New England colleges are represented at this tournament. 'The Muhlenberg tournament is held annually for the colleges and universities of Pennsylvania and adjacent areas. Plaut placed second in this tournament last year, which was covered by Ed ward R. PENNSYLVANIA Arnelle Named Best West Hall 1954-55 Student Jesse Arnelle, 1954-195 r. All- University President, was named the outstanding all-around stu dent living in the West dorm area last year. The award was one of five made by the West dorm council last night to men living in the west dorm area who were con sidered outstanding in some phase of University life. Other awards were Robert Stroup, 'Sophomore in industrial engineering from, Mun c y, out standing fresh m a n; Roosevelt Grier, 1955 graduate, outstanding in athletics; .S i d n e y Goldblatt, 1955 graduate, outstanding in scholarship; and William Lieber man, 1955 graduate, outstanding scholastically. The council also appointed a committee to look into the possi bility of lifting the ban on women students and parents in west dorm lounges. The ban on women was instituted two years ago. • Council announced self nomina tions may .be made for the Asso ciation of Independent Men board of governors. The ducks used in the current bird navigation research project 'north of the University's ice skat ing rink are most active between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. The bird navi gation studies, which have been carried on for a number of years, have been expanded this year and many more are flying over the hunting areas.
