PAGE SIX IM Gr Yo-Yo's,Barfers, Navy Triumph In IM Football By GREG HUNTINGDON Sparked by Dean Rossi's all around play, the Yo-Yo's tram pled the Tim's, 19-0, in IM foot ball last night. In other games, Navy topped the Turtles, 7-0, and Barfers squeezed out a win over Penn Haven, bettering the Haveners in fir s t downs. A fourth game was forfeited to the Pugh Street Cats when the New man Club failed to appear. A potent, high-scoring Yo-Y l o team served notice on the 34 in dependent teams still battling for the '55 Intramural gridiron title, that it has both the equipment and manpower to dethrone the Fire Balls, champs for the last four years, and capture the ninth annual IM crown for Independ ent teams. Rossi Stars A diminutive halfback, Dean Rossi, stole the show last night at Beaver Field and led his Yo- Yo nine to an impressive victory as the IM playoffs moved into the second round. Rossi, hampered by a slick turf, passed, ran, and punted his team to victory in a dazzling exhibi tion of football. Dean learned his fundamentals under Elwood Pet chel, former Penn State All- American and Cotton Bowl Star, at Bellwood-Antis. Rossi Scores Twice The Yo-Yo's turned the open ing kick-off into a touchdown when Tim's Dick Wright bobbled Don Franklin's tricky spiral and the alert Rossi swooped it up on the loser's 20, and ambled into the end zone. A Rossi to Charlie Linton pass made it 7-0. The win ners wasted little time in icing the contest. Three minutes later, Ron Griffs pilfered Karl Tame ler's aerial intended for Art Vel enski and sprinted to the 13, where Rossi took up the attack and swept left end for the tally. The... The Yo-Yo's won, 19-0, sparked by Rossi's running and passing. The extra point attempt failed. Late in the second frame, the Yo-Yo's cashed in on another Tim miscue. Bud Mortimer fumbled Franklin's punt on the 40 and big Rich Bunn, of Luzerne, Pa., recovered. Three plays later the versatile Rossi pitched to Bunn for the final six-pointer. The pass-for-point was dropped and the half ended with the Yo-Yo's holding a wide margin. The remainder of the game was limited to numerous punts and pass interceptions. However, Ros si gave a fine account of himself, moving the ball inside the ten on many occasions only to have bobbles and interceptions thwart further scoring. All told Dean ac counted for nine first downs and figured in every scoring play. Barfers Win on Downs An alert secondary prolonged the Barfers participation in the IM tourney as they held off Penn Haven's passing attack and man aged to eke out a triumph on the strength of three first downs. The Barfers picked up their NOVEMBER 4 REC HALL DANCING FROM 9 TO 1 THE DAILY COLLEGIAN. STATE COLLEGE.
