The program was held Saturday afternoon in front of Old Main. Miss Gallagher wore a white eyelet organdy gown with wide straps and a full unpleated skirt. She was attended by two attendants from each of the senior. Junior, sophomore, and fresh man classes. Twenty outstanding seniors formed the honor arch through which the queen walked, and thirty-six senior women made up the Hemlock Chain. Engagements Bruder-Farber Mr. and Mrs. Albert Farber of Pittsburgh announce the engage ment of their daughter Patricia to Mr. Kenneth Bruder, son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel B. Bruder of Altoona. Miss Farber is an eighth se mester education major. She is a member of Phi Sigma Sigma and Chimes, junior women’s hat so ciety. Mr. Bruder attended the Uni versity and was graduated from the S.R.T. Television Studios in New York City. Zimmeiman-Levitt Mf. and Mrs., Edward Levitt of Philadelphia announce the en gagement of their daughter Elea nor to Mr. Stanley Zimmerman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Zim merman of Lock Haven. Miss Levitt, an eighty semester education major, is a member of Phi Sigma Sigma. Mr. Zimmerman was graduated from the University in'.1952. He is a member of Alpha Epsilon Pi. Dolan-Yanish Mr. and Mrs. Ralph L. Yanish of Quakertown announce the en gagement of their daughter Kay to Mr. Richard Dolan, son of Mr. and Mrs. S. P. Dolan of Pitts burgh. Miss Yanish is a freshman at Bethlehem College in Bethlehem. Mr. Dolan is an eighth semester liberal arts major and a member of Kappa Delta Rho. Maikowitz-Kiavitz Mr. and Mrs. Louis Kravitz of Pittsburgh announce the engage ment of their daughter Mildred to Pfc. Jack Markowitz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Markowitz of Pittsburgh. Miss Kravitz, an eighth semester journalism major, is vice presi dent of Phi Sigma Sigma. Pfc. Markowitz attended the University of Pittsburgh and is now stationed at Redstone Ar senal, Huntsville, Alabama. A July wedding is planned. Shanken-Snyder Mr. and Mrs. Thomas 'C. Sny der of Mill Hall announce the en gagement of their daughter Diane to Mx . Edward Shanken, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Shanken of Philadelphia. Miss Snyder was graduated from Bloomsburg State Teachers College and is now teaching in Cedarhurst, Long Island. Mr. Shanken received his B.A. and M.A. degrees from the Uni versity. He served as president of the Liberal Arts Student Council and president of Pi Kappa Alpha. He is now assistant director of the University Extension Service at the University of New Hampshire, Durham, New Hampshire, and is also president of the New Hamp ■hire Speech Association. PENNSYLVANIA Home Ec Club Elects Humbert To State Post Patricia Humbert, fourth se mester home economics major, was elected secretary of the Penn sylvania Home Economics College Club last weekend at the college club section of the Pensylvania Home Economics Associaiton con vention. Eleven delegates from the Home Economics Club attended and par ticipated in the convention which was held from Friday morning to Saturday noon in Pittsburgh. Richard Thomas, foreign cor respondent and radio and televi sion newscaster, was the main speaker for the convention. He spoke on “America, the Construc tive World Force.” Delegates attending the conven tion were Ann Sterner, Barbara Serfass, Misa Humbert, Evelyn Mawhinney, Sally Kilmer, Shirley Legrand, Dorothy Zglinski, Maria Stupp, Adrienne Bogar, and Lois Korona. Dr. Grace M. Henderson, dean of the College of Home Econom ics, is president of the Pennsyl vania Home Economics Associa tion. Advisor to the University club is Edith W. Vieira, assistant professor of clothing and textiles. Spotlighting The Beta Phi chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta was established at the University in 1931. Before becoming national, it was a local group known as the Nit-A-Nees. Theta was founded nationally in 1870 at DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind., and is the second oldest women’s college frat ernity. There are 78 collegiate chapters. Kappa Alpha Theta’s national philanthropy is contributing to the Institute of Logopedics in Wichita, Kan. The local chapter raises money for this project by holding an annual Theta Bazaar in the fall. Last year the chapter contributed the highest amount of the national chapters. They also hold an annual Christmas party for underprivileged children and support a war orphan in France The Beta Phi chapter hag won the IFC-Panhel sing for the past two years, and last year won the intramural sports award. The chapter also parti cipates in Spring Week and has a booth in Mardi-Gras. Six Thetas are members of Mortor Board, three are members of Scrolls, one is a member of Chimes, and four are Cwens. Mir iam Jones is president of Cwens. Another Theta, Patricia Farrell, is president of Women’s Recrea tion Association. Each year the sorority presents a scholarship bracelet to the mem ber of the pledge class having the highest average. Dorothy Swan son, a Theta sister, won the Sparks Award last year. This award rec ognizes the student who shows the. greatest improvement in achieving a perfect average. The scholarship average of the 49 sis ters is 1.97. 'Flight' May Get CAP Applications Members of Angel Flight who intend to join the Civil Air Pa trol and have not yet received ap plications may obtain them from Ann Lederman, Flight Comman der. All applications must be turned in to Miss Lederman by 5 p.m. Friday. The Flight will meet for drill at 8 p.m. Monday in the Armory. Members will' also meet next Tuesday at 7 p.m., and at 7:30 p.m. will interview candidates for Angel Flight.
