Egli's quintet gave its new boss an 81-63 win Saturday at Rec Hail against a surprisingly strong Dick inson team, and now moves on to battle a team that hasn't bowed to a Penn State entry in four straight years. the Lion s, although they looked ragged at times, used a stepped up offensive game and a good sliding-zone defense to turn back coach Slim Ransom's team for their victory Saturday. Lions Take Early Lead Led by speedy Bob Hoffman, a sharp shooting set shot artist made to order for a fast breaking of fense, the Nittanies took an early lead, built up a comfortable mar gin, and then took a commanding edge in the final ten minutes of the contest. Except for the opening moments of the second half, Dickinson never threatened. 'And when it did begin to close the gap, Hoff man, who scored 18 points, and Rudy Marisa, with 13, took charge to keep the Lions in a comfort able lead. Center Jesse Arnelle followed in the Lion scoring with 10 points and Jim Blocker and Ron Weiden hammer each added eight. Varano Tops Dickinson Scorers Porward Bob Varano, who shared scoring honors with guard Lee Huber for Dickinson with 17 points, got the Red Devils off to a 1-0 lead shortly after the open ing. buzzer and then 'center John Xohlmeier boosted the score to 3-0. From that point on the Lions began to pull away and led 19-7 Midway in the half. Weindenham mer and Earl Fields took up the scoring chores for the remainder Of the half and Penn State moved ahead 33-20 at the intermission.
