PAGE TVM Flight Active Duty Upped to Four Years Students enrolled in Air Force Reserve Officers Training Corps who wish to become top rate pilots will have to sign a new four-year active duty contract, according to an un official announcement in the Nov. 6 edition of the Air. Force Times. Graduates of basic pilot school will not get advanced fly ing training and can expect to serve in ground-type and non operational flying jobs for the duration of their short tours, the article reported. Begins with 55G The new arrangement begins with class 55G, which graduates in January. Men in this and sub sequent classes will be asked to sign four-year contracts. If they agree, according to Air Force Times, they will enter advanced courses to become skilled in the latest jet aircraft and assume cockpit jobs. Col. Daniel F. Riva, professor of Air Science, said that this new program benefited both the ROTC student and the Air Force. A student now enrolled in AFROTC, explained Riva, has the opportunity to decide whether or not he wants to make the Air Force his career. If he decides to remain in the service after his required hitch is over, the extra training he receives as a result of the extended year's service will be of value to him, Riva said.
