Undefeated Lions Host
Orange Boaters "Today
A rivalry that has been dead for four, years will be revived at 10 a.m. today when
Penn State’s undefeated soccer team tangles with Syracuse. University in the first of four
home games. , •
During the three years before the inter-school competition ended, Penn State held a
three-year win streak/ over the Orange. '
In 1950—the last time the Lions met the New Yorkers —Penn State tripped a tough
Syracuse squad, 2-0. Syracuse also dropped the 1948 and 1949 encounters •to the Lions,

met Penn State in four years, the

cuse was mauled by, penn State
—much of the credit for the two
wins went to a .halfback by the'
name of Hosterman.
The All-American right half
back who helped the Lions tram
ple Syracuse more than five years
ago was Ralph Hosterman, brother
of Pehn State’s present coach.
Hosterman is handling the Lion
squad for his second year.
Hosterman Broke Leg
Ken Hosterman was in school
when the Lions chalked up their
wins over Syracuse in 1948, and
1949, but was Watching the game
and his brother from the side
lines. A broken leg suffered in a
1947 contest forced him to give up
the)booting sport.

cari piloted his team, which posted
a 4-2-1 card last season, ,to a 2-0
win over Colgate—the only mu
tual opponent on the two team’s
schedule last season.. Penn State
had to rely on an'overtime boot
to clip the Raiders 1-0 last fall.
Lions Have ISf Goals -
Syracuse will have to brew a
potent formula for today’s contest
if it expects to knot Penn State’s
offensive patterns which have
racked up 19 goals in two games;
.And the Lions defensive play
also promises to serve as a big
headache for Coach Coccari and
his eleven-man squad. Junior

New York Yankees began rebuild
ing'for 1955 today by purchasing
the contracts of four of their
farm hands, including Negr o
catcher Elston Howard. Howard
is the first Negro to be placed on
