RAGE SIX Trackmen, Ince ecord Wins Nine Marks Established In 71-60 Win By DICK McDOWELL Speedy Art Pollard and footballer Rosey Grier com bined winning efforts in five events Saturday at Beaver Field to lead the Penn State track team to a sparkling 71-60 victory over favored Michigan State. Records fell in nine events as the Nittanies cap tured their third straight dual meet victory this season. Pollard, who hasn't been beat en in dual meet competition this year, bucked a 3-mile wind when he swept to victories in the 100- yard dash and 220-yard dash. In the century he matched the Penn State record held by Barney Ewell (1942) with a :9.6 clocking. He came within .1 second of Ewell's mark in the 220, breast ing'the tape at :20.8. Grier Wins Three Grier has been sharing weight honors with teammate Chuck Blocii.-son this season but held the spotlight alone Saturday when he won three events—shot put, dis cus, and javelin. Blockson fin ished second in the shot and dis cus, and the Lion's Dan Hutchin son took second honors in the javelin. Grier's mark in the shot, a heave of 54' 7", set a new meet record. The mile relay team turned in a brilliant 3:16 to shatter the Penn State mark set by the same quar tet two weeks ago. Pollard, with a :48.0 second lap, 011ie Sax, Dave Leathern, and Skip Slocum, fin ished 75 yards ahead of the Spar tan anchor man. Sax Thrills Crowd Sax, who has been at his best on the cinders this spring, thrilled an estimated 3000 fans when he ripped through the 440 in :48.7, bettering his own best mark, a Penn State record, by .1 second. The flashy junior also turned in a :48.3 lap in the relay. Captain Dan Larch reached his all time best in the pole vault with a 13' 6" effort, good enough for a first place tie and a new Penn State record. Lorch is un beaten in dual meet competition this spring but had been unable to top the 13' mark until Satur day. Holien's Spirit Wins Red Hollen blazed home in the stretch of the two-mile run to win that even t in 9:25. He passed Michigan State's John Cook in the final turn and sprinted to the tape for the win. Hollen also ran a non-winning 4:18 mile. The Lion distance star finished second to Cook, who topped the meet rec- sprint demon, races home in the 100-yard dash against Michigan State.
