Cogers Seek
To Snap Jinx
When the Nittany Lion basketball team meets Pennsylvania in
Philadelphia Saturday Elmer Gross’ quintet will be seeking its first
win at the Penn Palestra since 1939 when Charley Posser led the
Nittanies to a 34-21 victory over the Quakers.
In fact the Lions have succumbed to the Red and Blue 25 times
m the 31 games that the two teams have played. Since Howard Dall
mar took over the coaching chores Penn has won four games against
the Lions starting in 1950 when they whipped the Lions 66-49. The
following year it was 61-58, and
then in 1952 the Philadelphians
edged State, 54-52, and came back
with a nip-and-tuck 60-56 victory
last winter. '■
Three Regulars Refurn
The Quakers this year figure
to be good, but not so good as
the 1952-53 team which won the
Eastern Intercollegiate basketball
league. Dallmar has only three
returning regulars but can count
on top-rate performances from
several promising sophomores.
Gone is the great Ernie Beck
who was named on just about
everybody’s all-America last year.
However, Dallmar still has for
ward and captain Dick Heylmun
who was the number two man in
the scoring department last year
with 328 points. He scored 22
points to lead Penn to victory
in their opening game against
Delaware last week.
Sturgis at Center
Forward Bart Leach and jun
ior guard Karl Hoagland, the
other two regulars, will be in the
lineup against the Lions. Leach
tallied 218 points last year and
Hoagland scored 230. Frank Vi
tetta will fill the other guard po
sition and sophomore Joe Stur
gis will replace Beck at the pivot
spot

Chinese Food Is Good, But.. .
Personally it is much easier to eat a
good meal with a knife and fork than a
pair of chop-sticks.
Chop suey is good but for a main
course, a steak would be much tastier.
