WEDNESDAY, MAY 6, 1953 `Medium' Stars To Sing Tonight Belva Kibler, mezzo-soprano, and Donald Morgan, baritone, i . 11 present a recital of German songs In the fourth Simmons lecture series at 8 tonight in the Hillel Foundation auditorium ' The stars in Menotti's movie, "The. . Medium" will pretent works of Schumann, Schubest, Brahins and Wolf. No admission will 'be charged. The program is open to the public. Miss Kibler, recognized for her renditions of Bach and German Lieder, has sung. alto solos Bach's St. John's Passion, St. Mathew's .Passion. B-minor mass, Christmas oratorio and Bach cantatas under the direction of Arthur Mendel, conductor of the Cantata Singers in New York. Last :season Miss Kibler pre sented a series of 30 concerts in Rome, Vienna, Berlin and throughout the provinces of Ger many and Austria. In 1933 Morgan, who has sung professionally since the age of two. won a scholarship and went to Germany. as an exchange stu dent. He recived his doctor's de gree in German literature and continued studying music at the universities of Cologne, Bonn, and Munch. Morgan presented concerts in Cologne, Bonn and Duesseldorf, Germany. Returning to this coun try in 1938, he became a German instructor at the University of Minnesota. - 'bi t Theta Chi The Omega chapter of Theta Chi recently attended the annual regional convention at Lehigh University. Theta Chi maintained its standing as one of the leading chapters of the eastern recrion. The chapter was awarded six out of the eight awards 'given. Two were awarded to alumni for outstanding achievements for the fraternity. Four were awarded to the local chapter for the follow ing: attaining the most-man miles; two scholarship achieve ments, the national scholarship award and the regional scholar ship award; and the award for the best song and cheer. Dance Club To Perform At 8 Tonight The Modern Dance Club of the Nomen's Recreation Association will present its annual spring Concert at 8 tonight in White Hall as part of the Combined Arts fes tival. Free' tickets for the perform ances , tonight, tomorrow, and Saturday may be obtained at White Hall. Theme for the first half of the concert will be "To a Metropolls" based on the activities of a city. Second half of the program will consist of different numbers in terpreting various themes. Robertson and Leona An derson. 'Hustle and Bustle' Choreography for the dances was done by the group assisted by Dorothy Briant, assistant profes sor of physical education. Accom panist for the concert is Mrs. Hermance Reese with Miss Briant as director. The program will open with, "The Hustle and Bustle" dance. Second is a solo by Miss Briant, "Unmistakable Awe." Constance Paakh will solo in a number tit led, "Industrial." Four other dances, "Water front," "Airs of Distinction," "Bells of a Cathedral," and "Un conquerable Force," will be per formed by the group. Hawaiian Dance A solo by Miss Layton in which she reads and interprets "Vision ' and Prayer" by Dylan Thomas; will open the second half of the concert. Miss Ku will do a Hawaiian dance, "Ulili E." The dance grOtrk will do an interpretation of a folk ballad, "Runnin' Around," and a dance called "Your Joy is Your Sorrow Unmasked." The next number is called "Nos talgia" and will be danced by' Miss Nicoll, Miss Mills, and Miss Mayberry. "Primitive Ritual," a gro u p number with -a solo by- Miss Lay ton, will conclude the program. Dr. Hottel has been granted a leave of absence from the niver si y Pennsylvania where she '2s dean of women and a lecturer In sociology to direct research on women's educational needs. There, she picked up experience in modeling, selling, and window display. When she was a freshman she was chosen a member of Made moiselle magazine's college fash ion board and has been a mem ber of the board for the past three years. She has also added to her pile of experience by handling local fashion shows. After graduation, Miss Baker expects to work in Philadelphia or Cleveland in either advertising or merchandising. She is enthus iastic about her future job pros pects and keeps a scrapbook of advertising examples she espe c:ally likes. She designs fashions just for fun, but on the more serious side, she practices advertising draw ing. Wash drawings are her favo rites. After classes she usually heads for the courts to practice the serves and shots for her favorite hobby, tennis. She also finds time to swim. Miss Baker is president of Del ta Gamma, and a member of WSGA House of Representatives, Cwens, and the Freshman Cus toms Board. Sorority Celebrates Founders' Day Banquet Theta Phi Alpha celebrated its annual Founders' Day Saturday at a banquet at the Allencrest. Dor6thy Radziak, province gov ernor of the sorority's North At lantic province, was guest speak er. 'Mrs. Richard C. Dumene, pres ident of the State College Alum nae Association, served as mis tress of ceremonies. Lillian Yacopchak received the best pledge award for 1953.
