directed postwar agricultural re
habilitation there, taught western
agricultural practices at Lingnan
College and provided the West
with many Oriental foods an d
plants.
McCrory was lauded for his role
in the development of his adopt
ed country, Canada. His work in
hydroelectric expansion was noted
as were his contributions to maii
kind. Nick was recognized not
only for his service to many busi
nesses and industries but also for
his contributions of time and mon
ey to charitable work and to civic
undertakings.
The citation was directed to
Brehm as a "teacher, researchist,
and citizen." The medallions and
scrolls were presented by Presi
dent Eisenhower with Eric A.
Walker, clean of the School of En
gineering, and Lyman E. Jack
son, dean of the School of Agri
culture, reading the citations.
Eisenhower in his talk said that
the nation is based on its rank
and file but that it recognizes
those with unusual aptitude. The
national belief, he said, is in the
perfectibility of mankind an d
prestige and property are used as
a stimulus.
He said that there is a need for
leadership in the realm of ideas
and to help convert an under
standing of these ideas into every
day workings. Men and women
with the qualities of leadership
and scholarship as were being
honored last night, gave him con
fidence in tomorrow, he said.
