RA Encourages
IM, Club Programs
The Women's Recreation Association was organized to provide
a constructive athletic program for women students at the College
and to promote friendly competition among them. White Hall, the
women's physical education building, is the center -for WRA activ
ties.
The WRA office, 103 White Hall, is open for interested students
to acquaint themselves with the
athletic program offered by the
organization.
In order to provide a variety
of activities, WRA has set up a
program divided into four cate
gories. The club activities pro
gram offers opportunities for in
struction and participation in var
ied forms of recreation. The intra
mural program includes organized
tournaments for individual and
team sports. The projects program
emphasiied philanthropic activi
ties and the individual participa
tion program promotes volun
tary participation in informal ac
tivity.
Modern Dance Concert
Clubs in badminton, bowling,
bridge, fencing, modern dance,
officiating, out in g, rifle, and
swimming are included in the
- club activities program. Member
ship is open to all women students
at no cost. The clubs are directed
by the club activities boar d,
which is made up of the club
activities chairman and the presi
dents of the individual clubs.
The modern dance club presents
a concert as part of the annual
observance of Mother's Day, and
the swimming club holds an aqua
: cade in the spring.
The WRA cabin in the Tussey
Mountain range, five miles from
campus, is used for bicycle trips,
- wiener roasts, hikes, and over
night cabin parties. Any group of
women students may have par-
ties at the cabin by making res-
ervations in the WRA office. No
- charge is made for the cabin's
use by undergraduate women stu
- dents. The cabin is fully equipped
for cooking and sleeping.
Two Trophies Given
The intramural program in
cludes tournaments in basketball,
bowling, badminton, softball, ta
ble tennis, swimming, and volley
ball. Groups representing classes,
sororities, independent women's
groups, and dormitory living units
participate in the intramural pro
gram.
WRA awards an intramural cup
to the group which wins the larg
est number of games in team com
petition and a participation cup
to the group which has the larg
est percentage of its members
participating for the greatest
number of hours.
Two teams made up of the
best players in each sport are
selected by a committee made up
of the faculty adviser, the intra
mural chairman, and the class
managers.
Individual champions are de
termined in the all-College single
elimination tournaments. All un
dergraduate women students are
eligible to participate in these
events.
As part of its project program,
WRA undertakes the adoption of
a foreign foster child. A Christmas
party is given for rural school
children; a semi-formal all-Col

Dance, is held annually near Val
entine's Day.
Voluntary IM Program
