The Idaho boxer, 10-0-1 on the season,, was Sammy’s downfall in the 125 pound class in the na tionals last year. Maurey Finishes 2d Wisconsin, with heavyweight Bob Ranck and welterweight Bob Morgan leading the way, snared the team title. Morgan eliminated State’s other entry, EIBA cham pion John Albarano. Sophomore Jerry Maurey. who finished the season" with a 5-0 record, was decisioned in his opening round match by Joe Hen son, Armed Forces, and although he pinned three straight grapp lers and decisioned two more fol lowing his defeat, he had to settle for runnerup honors in the NAAU meet in Ithaca, N.Y. Clark Wins Title Henson, 136.5 pounder selected as the meet’s best, is a former Naval Academy captain where he was under present Olympic Coach Ray Swartz. It was the second loss of Jerry’s life, he having previously been beaten' by three-time EIWA champ'George Feuerbach who finished fourth Saturday in the NAAU. Dick Clark, the Cornellian who snapped Homer Barr’s 2Q-match win streak last year, won the un limited class title. Cindermen Run First Time Trials Amid ideal fall football weath er, Penn State’s outdoor track team was given its first time trial session on the Beaver Field oval yesterday afternoon. In the 120 yard high hurdles, Ron Younkers posted the fastest clocking (15.6) of the two heats. Fred Singer finished a close sec ond, with John Milsom third. Veteran Bill Polito paced the contestants in the lflO yard dash with a 10.3 timing. Skip Slocum and Captain John Lauer finished second and third, respectively. With 11 men racing in the mile, Jim Blood lead at the end of the first lap, running a 62 flat. On the second and third laps, Jack Hor ner and Bob Gehman exchanged leads, only to have frosh Lamont Smith spurt ahead in the final lap to win the event with a 4:37 timing. About five yards behind Smithy were Horner, Gehman, and Blood in that order, respec tively. Lacrossemen Open At Navy Thursday Penn State will’ seek revenge for two of its three lacrosse de feats last year when it travels to Loyola of Baltimore Thursday and Navy Saturday. Coach Nick Thiel’s men last year lost to Loyola, 14-12, here and dropped a 10-1 decision to Navy at Annapolis. Of the two teams, State will probably have more trouble with the Middies even though Navy has lost honorable mention All- Americans Bill Earl, Charlie Mc- Donough, and Larry Treadwell. Earl was a midfielder while Mc- Donough and Treadwell were attackmen. Four Wrestlers Enter Olympic Mat Trials Four members of -Penn State’s EIWA championship mat squad will compete in the Olympic trials Friday and Saturday at Amity ville, Long Island. First and sec ond place winners will earn a shot at the final Olympic tryouts in Ames, la., April 18 and 19. The Lions who will be bidding to represent the United States in Helsinki this summer are NCAA and EIWA champ Joe Lemyre at 174.5; EIWA champ Dick Lemyre at 125.5; Jerry Maurey at 136.5; and Doug Frey, 147.5.
