Educator from Attends Penn State The principal of an industrial school in "New Delhi, India, has enrolled at the College so that she may help her native people learn more about industry. ' Irene A. Williams, principal' of the Industrial 'Vocational Train ing. Institute for Women, the 'only school of its type in India, is now studying industrial education at. the College under a scholarship through the Economic Cooperation Administration. Miss Williams - believes' that there is a definite need for wom en to take an active part in the industrial life of her country, and hopes that facilities for teaching industrial education will be ex panded. . Before Ishe enrolled at the Col lege last month, the Indian edu cator spent four months traveling through eight states and the Dis trict of Columbia to see Ameri can industrialization in theory and in operation. She visited in dustrial concerns, craft centers, farms, public schools, colleges, and government agencies. Miss Williams was impressed by the organization of the-industrial education curricula in public high schools and colleges, - the school community-employer cooperation in the industrial education field, and educational methods employ ing shop work and the use of audio-visual aids Her English name puzzles the persons she meets on her tgavels, Miss Williams says, explaining that they seem a little bit dis appointed "when T. tell them that I inherited it from - my grand father who adopted Christianity years ago." "But they'always seem satisfied o use my English - name when r add that my middle name is `Anandabai," the Indian princi pal adds.
