Tour Six-J apan es e women com pleted a week's visit to Penn State yesterday as part of their tour of the United States to study labor methods which might be helpful in their native land. The women are all trade union representatives in Japan and are making 'the trip under the aus pices of the Labor and State De partments. The visitors are studying pro gress in trade unionism and stan dards of living for workers in this country. Their trip is a part of a long-range program of hav ing teams from foreign countries visit the. U.S. Anthony S. Luchek, in charge of labor education at Penn State, said this visiting group, com posed entirely of women, shows Japan's attempt to have women take an active part in the af fairs of their country. It was pointed out in Wash ington recently that 96,296 tons of steel were included in alloca tions of c r iti éal materials for schools, colleges, - an d libraries, and the ,U.S. Office of Education had requested NPA to authorize 192,000 additional tons of steel. While the amount authorized will provide for continuance of 2314 projects in progress on Oct. 1, it was explained that there are 2293 pending applications for authorization to commence con struction and for allocation of critical materials for which steel requirements total 166,500 tons. This is in addition to the amount of steel allocated by the NPA for construction of school, col lege, or library buildings for the remainder of 1951 and the first quarter of 1952.
