FRIDAY, NOVEMBER: King of the Mardi To ‘.Be .croviiie.d-7.00,01ii Arabian dancers, spooks, freaks; -and chorui,'girls,will be among the entertainers at the Mardi Gras ca'inival . from 8 to 12 midnight tonight in Recreation Hall A highlight of the carnival erownrrig 'of the.,King • of the Mardi Gras: , Naney - Mcclairt, 'President of Mortar - Board, sponsors of the carnival, will crown the king with •a mortar board. He will be presented with• a silver scepter, 'a certificate of kingship, and a complimentary gift certificate from Jack Har per's Pictures on Display Marilyn Williams will play the fanfare. The crown-bearer will be the president of the -organi zation _whose candidate is ' king, Lois Pulver and Constance Mel vin, will be jesters. Nineteen candidates have been nominated for king honors. Their pictures are on display in the window of the Athletic Store. Voting at , one penny a vote will close at 11 tonight, and the crown ing ceremony will take place at 11:30 tonight. Free - Dancing Twenty booths, sponsored by 18 sororities, Leonides, and fresh man council, will compete for possession of 'a bronze trophy cup, awarded to the booth which takes in the largest number of tickets. Admission to the carnival will be. 15 cents. Tickets priced at ten cents will be sold at the door, and will be good at' all booths. Dancing will be free of charge. Mortar:-Board will run a re freshment stand.' Cider will cost one ticket, and a second ticket will be good for two doughnuts. Alpha Phi Omega• to Help, Proceeds from the carnival will be given to the Charlotte E. Ray Memorial Scholarship Fund, in come from which is used for scholarships for worthy women on campus. Members of Alpha Phi Omega, service honorary, will be on hand at 5 p.m. today to help with booth construction. Each group spon soring a booth will furnish its own props. Helms King Last Year Miss McClain announced that booths will close at 11:30 tonight. Booth chairmen have been asked to make an approximate count of their tickets before turning them in at the ticket booth be tween 11:30 and 11:45 tonight. The winning organilation will be announced iri Tuesday's Daily Collegian. Proceeds from last year's Mardi Gras totaled $1139.69. This amount was almost $4OO , more than the previous year's total. For the past two years; the trophy-has been won by Alpha Omicroni Pi. Kap= pa Delta placed second last year. Patrick Heims was last year's king. The Pennsylvania division of the Athletic Federation of Col lege Women will hold its next fall's convention at Penn State, Marilyn Williams, Women's Rec reation Association president, an nounced. At its convention last weekend, the AFCW chose the College over Beaver College and Pennsylvania College for Women as the site for next year's convention. Th e WRA executive board voted to abide by the results of the Women's Student Govern ment Association's poll in deter mining whether or not to release results of the recent WRA elec tion. Folk Dance Course A short course in folk dancing will begin at 8 p.m. tomorrow in the Episcopal Par is h House.
