But hunters are warned by. the state Game Commission that semi-automatic and repeating shotguns must be plugged to three-shell capacity. State’s cross-countrymen will try for their second straight win of the season and their eighth in a row over the , past three campaigns when they race Cornell at 2 p.m. today on the College course. The five mile run starts and finishes in Beaver Field with most of the running action visible on the golf course. Coach Chick Werner’s 1950 na tional champs opened its season last week with a 19-36 victory over Pitt. Although the score was not too close, the Lions were hardly a resemblance to last year’s team. In beating the Panthers, the Nittany thinclads ran off with the first three places. Pitt took the fourth position and the Lions fifth. But' State’s fifth finisher was sandwiched in eighth place surrounded by Pitt runners from sixth to 11th places. • Cornell also got off to a win ning start last week t downing Colgate 25-32. Although not a strong harrier team in recent years, the Big Red runners show ed a fine team spirit against Col gate by placing five men together in third place. This bunching won the meet for Cornell even though Colgate took the first two spots. Last fall at Cornell the Lions shut out the Red runners from the first seven places en route to a 15-50 victory. Two of the harriers responsible for that rout are running against Cornell today. Both Bill Ashen felter arid Captain Dud Foster, who tied for first last fall at Ithaca, are ready to move up from their eighth and third places respectively against Pitt. Winner and runnerup against the Panthers, Lamont Smith and Red Hollen will toe the line to day for the Lions along with Jack Horner, who finished fifth last year. Bob Roessler, Pete Judd, and Carl Godshall, 12th to 14th last Saturday, also go for the Lions today. So will Pete Sarantopoulos who didn’t finish the season opening race. Three hew Lions have made the starting squad taking over the place of Dave Pierson, Bob Gehman, and, John Davidson. These new varsity starters to day are frosh John Chillrud (the only freshman aside from Smit ty), junior Don Gaddes, and var 7 sity numeral winner last fall Stan Lindner. For Cornell the top men to watch are the five who tied for third against Colgate. Among that five were Bob Stuckleman and Robertson. Both are senior run ners. <Willig, Pierson and O’Brien all tied with Stuckelman and Robert son so they may be just as good. Other Red runners to contend with are Bob Kahrs and' Les Knapp who were 10th and 11th against Colgate.
