All indications point to a better year in a program that has been surpassing itself since its birth - in 1931. All men students may participate in any IM sport, providing they have not won a varsity letter in it. Last year, over 16,000 par ticipants took part in the pro gram's 1656 different Contests, 17 Tournaments Seventeen IM tournaments will be held this year. Touch football will open the program late this month and before soccer winds up the activities in the spring, students will' be able to partici pate in tennis singles and dou bles, golf medal ,and• team 'play, handball singles • 'and ;d ouble s, horseshoes • singles and doubles, basketball, swimming, wrestling, boxing, badminton, track, an d volleyball. - Softball was dropped from the program last year• because of lack in facilities, Bischoff said. He has high hopes, however, that the sport may be resumed this year. Most intramural • contests are held •in the evening, excepting those that , demand daylight. The program is. run in two divisions, fraternity and independent. The two divisions'.do not compete against each other. In the fraternity division, a system of point ratings, based on entrance points, game points, championship points, and point losses due to forfeits, de termine who wins the fraternity championship cup at the end of the 'year. Trophies are, awarded to winning fraternity ;teams. Last year's fraternity division cu p winner was Phi Delta Theta.
