Fast Tempo "If you're not fast enough for the Blde .Band you can "try for the football team" - is a popular saying in the Nittany Vale. The marching' band, well known -in 14e East, has one "of the fastest marching tempos at full step in the country. .• Limited to male ~ membership, the Blue Band's music and for mations are. attractions fat football games. - Prof Hummel l'ishburn works on formatiOnt and James W. Dunlop concentrates on the Musical end. The band practices every day except Sunday during football season. Tryoutt for the marching band and drum major will be ,held Wednesday through Friday from 9 a.m. through 4 p.m. in 109 Car negie Hall. Concert Unit The concert unit of the Blue Band presents winter and spring programs. Its members, male and female; _receive one credit for each semester's work. The group practice's Mondays at 7 p.m. and Wednesdays at 4 p.m. Tryouts for the concert unit are at the same time and place as the marching band. The College Symphony Orches tra, a mixed group, gives , two concerts - on campus and one off campus during the year. It fea tureg works of composers from pre-classical to the •m ode r n period. Members net one credit per semester. Theodore Karhan leads the group which practices Tuesdays t 7 p.m._-and Fridays at 4 p.m. . Tryouts will be . held Wednes day through Friday from 9 , a.m. to 4 p.m. - in 107 Carnegie Hall. -ROTC 'Bands • ROTC bands are open to men in various branches of ROTC. :Men in ROTC can obtain extra credit, •demerits, and ratings, ac cording. to• their work.;,Elmer C. :Wareham, is director. • Every Simday the Chapel Choir sings' during services in Schwab Auditorium. -In 'addition, th e group presents annual .choral pro grams at' Christmas time and on Palm Sunday. Oppose' Loyalty Oath At the June regional conven tion, the educational affairs corn mission opposed the loyalty oaths in the academic field and favored absentee voting. The -educational process, legislation affecting edu cation, student economic welfare, discrimination, and similar mat ters are the concerns of this com mission. The' student life program handles student government serv ices and extracurricular activi ties.
