Athletic Groups
To Consider Ban
-Both •the Eastern College Athletic conference and the National
Collegiate Athletic association will be asked to consider the Penn
State athletic advisory board's suggestion that Spring football prac
tice and 'the platoon system be eliminated as injurious to "the gen
eral health of college athletics?'

,Schott, dean*of the' School of Physical Education
and Athletics and ex-n - fficio member of the board, said he planned
to address a request for such con
sideration to Earl It Yoemans, of
Temple University,, executive
chairman of ECAC, and Hugh C.
Willett, of Southern California,
president of NCAA.
Penn State's advisory board, a
13-man' group representing stu
dents, faculty, alumni and trus
tees, advanced these proposals in
a report which considers both
developments detrimental to the
future of college football. While
th e financial: aspects w e'r e
stressed in each case, the board
also expressed the opinion that
the over-emphasis engendered by
Spring practice contributes tb the
academic delinquency of athletes
Factors other than finances and
academic deterioration - cited by
the board to strenghten its argu
ment against the continuance of
i Spring practice were the loss of
enthusiam for the game which

championship meets.
Landon, entered the Eastern
Intercollegiate Athletic. associa
tion tennis tournament in Syra
cuse, N.Y., bowed to Bill Lusk
of Colgate in , the semi-finals.
Before Landon was defeated, he
managed to upset top-seeded
Ronnie Ryan of Colgate. •
Roderer, the lone State entry in
the National Collegiate Athletic
association track meet in Seattle,
Wash., took fifth place in the
javelin threw with • a heave of
208 feet.
