'MONDAY, JULY 2, 1951 Oliver Narned Adviser To President of Korea Dr. Robert T. Oliver, professor and head of the department of speech at the College, has been named as adviser to Dr. Syngman Rhee, president of the Republic of Korea, and departed last month for the Far East. He' will return in February. In his new position, Dr.. Oliver expects to deal with Korean- Japanese • and Korean-American problems. Two of the problems with • which the Republiq 'of Korea government now is concerned are the question of whether or not the 38th parallel would continue to be a boundary or would there be complete unification and inde pendence of all Korea if hostili ties cease and should arms be pro vided for an additional 200,000 Korean troops? Prior to joining the Penn State faculty in 1949, Dr. Oliver was manager of the Washington bur eau of the Korean Pacific Press and now serves as consultant to the Kore..n Pacific Press. From 1942 to 1948, he served as coun sellor to the Korean Com Mission which 'was the,diplomatic agency of the Republic of 'Korea in exile and was dissolved in 1948 when the Republic was established. He served on the faculty of the University of Korea in Seoul in 1946 and last September publish ed the book, "Why War Came .in Korea." He also has written other books and numerous magazine ar ticles on Korea Acdompanied by his family, Dr. Oliver sailed from San Francisco on June 23.
