Layout Contest
George D. Duff, Robert L. Ley
burn, and Ruth Harding have been
named winners of the advertising
layout contest sponsored by the
Pennsylvania Newspaper Publish
ers association for advertising
majors in the Department of
Journalism.
Prof. Donald W. Davis, in charge
of the advertising sequence at the
College, announced the award
winners.
Duff won the first award of $l5,
Leyburn, second $lO. and Miss
Harding, third, $5.
Arthur Anderson, James Gef
fert, and Clair Dorman were given
honorable mention.
Judging of the contest' was un
der the direction of Robert R. Mc-
Cracken, advertising manager of
the Norristown Herald and chair
man of the PNPA Display Adver
tising committee.

Three faculty members of the
Speech department participated
in the Eastern Public Speaking
conference held recently in Bos
ton.
Dr. Robert T. Oliver, ' head of
the Department of Speech, served
as a member of the Publications
and Nominations committees. Dr.
Eugene T. McDonald,' director of
the speech and hearing clinic,
presented a paper on "Modern
Concepts for Cleft Palate Speech
Retain in g," and Joseph F.
O'Brien, professor of speech, was
chairman of a sectional meeting,
served on the Constitutional Re
vision committee, and was elect
ed to the Nominating committee,
Dr. Sylvester K. Stevens of
State College discussed "The Im
portance of State and Local His
tory as a Field Study" at the
sectional meeting.
Dean's List Addition
One name was omitted from
the dean's list of the School of
Chemistry and Physics for the
fall semester of last year, accord
ing to George Haller, dean. He is
Daniel Rauscher, with a 2.7 aver
age.

the results to the attention of the
administration.
Tribunal Killed
The council also took the final
vote on the proposed West dorm
tribunal, and defeated the estab
lishment of a tribunal, 15-0, with
two abstentions.
All proposed amendments to
the AIM constitution except the
limitation upon grants and loans
to the various councils were ap
proved by the council.
A resolution asking the Col
lege to \ select residents of the
West dorms on a seniority semes
ter basis was also approved by the
council, an a committee was set
up to work with the dean of men's
office on the problem of housing.
The council also passed a reso

ROTC Physicals
To Be in Armory
All ROTC cadets who have
been ordered to take physical
examinations in the infirmary
are now ordered to report to the
armory, Col. Lucien Bolduc, pro
fessor of military science and tac
tics at the College, announced
recently.
Cadets are to report according
to their r egularly scheduled
time, Col. Bolduc added.
It was announced yesterday
that all ROTC cadets who are
scheduled to report for physical
examinations today and. up to
Saturday 'are to see Sgt. Lane in .

is Awarded Scliokwsidp
John I. Zerbe, a senior in wood
utilization, was awarded one of
four lumber industry scholarships
sponsored by the National Lurn
ber Manufacturers association.
The Department of Forestry
was informed this week of- the
award by R. A. Colgan, executive
vice-president of the association.
The scholarships are for a ten
week summer training period, be
ginning Stine 25 and ending Aug
ust 31, in the laboratory of the
Timber Engineering company in
Washington; D.C.
