PAGE EIGTIT Athletic Conference— (Continued from page one) sports at Penn State and develop rivalry between the members. But he went on to explain that Penn State team would not play all conference games if it were to enter a league but would retain old rivalries in respective sports. The reaction of various Penn State coaches to entrance into such a conference was varied but most agreed that it should depend on the schools represented. Speaking from the standpoint of their respective sports, all agregd that it would be good for some sports while it might hurt other sports at Penn State. Coaches Point Out A few of the coaches pointed out that some schools did not have some sports that Penn State offered and that it would be near ly impossible to find a group of schools equal in all sports. Almost all of them agreed that basketball and football would benefit by entrance in a confer ence because both sports are well represented at most schools, but a few of the coaches cited such sports as soccer, lacrosse, boxing, and wrestling, which some but not all colleges offer. Football• coach Rip Engle said he was in favor of Penn State's entering a conference. "I think that we could have as fine a league as there is in the country. It might iron out some of the problems Of getting recog nition and we would have a lot more influence. It would also pro vide a closer method of looking into eligibility," he said. Gross' Statement Elmer Gross, basketball coach, commenting on a conference said: "I think the idea for a league is a very good one. It would let us know just where we stand." Track coach, Chic Werner, and wrestling coach, Charlie Spiedel, both said they would like to see the names of the member teams before making a statement. Wer ner's cross-country team won the NCAA championship last fall, while Spiedel's mat team just fin ished an undefeated duel season. Eddie Sulkowski, boxing coach, Darks & Co. Been in DANKS lately? You should walk through their Sportswear Depart ment and inspect the smart clothes they have to offer the co-ed. I was most impressed with the suede jackets. Why, they're velvety soft, and in such beautiful colors—gold, aqua, light brown and tan gerine, and at such reason able prices. DANKS has a new ship ment of those plaid, san forized shirts, too. In either long or short sleeves with extra long tails, these shirts are at home in the classroom with skirts or with dun garees. E:::1 Besides a beautiful as sortment of sweaters, in cluding a new knitted bo lero with raglan sleeves and many, many skirts, DANKS has a table of T shirts—reduced to a dollar. THE DAILY COLLEGIAN, STATE COLLEGE, PENNSYLVIkNU%. also said he thought the idea for a conference a good one. "I think the schools that haven't the sports we offer, would soon adopt them," he said.
