DECEMBER % 1950 Princeton Gains Lambert Trophy; Army Snubbed Eastern collegiate football followers are still shaking their heads this morning at the surprise last minute swirl of events which yesterday prompted the selection of Princeton university as the 1950 winner of the Lambert trophy. The undefeated Tigers thus become the 15th annual re cipient of the trophy which symbolizes the college-champion of the Eastern United' States. The Tigers are the second Ivy League club to win the award. Cornell having won it in 1939. Obviously the sound thumping administered favored Army by ■the Naval Academy last Satur day was the cause for many of the participating sportswriters and sportscasters to switch from their original selections. Last week at this time the Knights of the Hudson appeared to have had the valued trophy safely salted away for the third straight time Princeton will accept the tro phy andthe permanent plaque at ; a luncheon today at Leone’s restaurant. Coach Charley Cald well and a number of Pripceton officials will be on hand to ac cept it. Princeton’s victory was clear cut, as the Tiger piled up a one sided count'in the. last two days. Monday a telegram was sent out by the Lambert committee to give those .sportswriters who wished to do so an opportunity to change their vote. Nine team's were named in the balloting by 75 Eastern sports writers from every section of the East. The first ten teams include: Princeton, Army, Navy, Lehigh, Fordham, Penn, Cornell, Trinity, arid Yale. Lamie scored on a free throw and a one hander to bring the score to 36-21 before Ithaca could score on a foul shot. Lamie then caught fire as he connected for three quick goals. Williams, Moore, and Panoples each tallied from the floor and the score stood at 48-24 before Ithaca counted its first field goal of the second half with eight min utes of play already gone. Williams again scored, this time with a set shot, and he was fol lowed with two goals by Chet Makarewicz and one by Panoples. Henry Osmer got another goal for the Bombers—and then the rains came! Lamie poured two goals and a foul through the hoop to bring the score to 61-26. Pi Kappa Phi rallied from a 13-12 halftime deficit to defeat Sigma Phi Alpha, 21-16; Brosious drop ped in 17 points for PiKA as they crushed Delta Theta Sigrria, 29-8. The other game in league A saw Phi Epsilon Pi drop a 19-14 decision to Theta Xi. In league B, Theta Chi beat Lambda Chi Alpha, 15-12; Al pha Zeta downed Tau Phi Delta; Alpha Epsilon Pi topped Phi Kap pa Tau; and Phi Kappa bested Alpha Chi Rho, 17-15.
