Society meetings in Chicago re
cently.

Prof Wins Prize
William R. Gordon, professor of
rural sociology extension, was
awarded second prize of $3OO in
a songwriting contest sponsored
by the State Department of Com
merce for Pennsylvania. Week.
The winning song was "Penn
sylvania, Keystone State" used
in the Aaronsburg Story last Oct.

Chemist Gets Job
Dr. Harry M. Crooks, who re
ceived his doctor of philosophy
degree at the College, and who is
now a research chemist with
Parke, Davis, and Co., has been
assigned the job of establishing a
research unit for the firm in Lon
don.

H. P. Hammond, dean of The
School of Engineering, will add

neering 2 and 3 at a senior lecture
in Schwab auditorium at 4:10
p.m. today. His subject will be
"The Year Ahead."

Lewis has 21 lettermen back, all
with two more seasons of eligi
bility, and while he won't com

Eisenhower then will give the
presidential address. Playing of
the Alma Mater and the recess
ional will mark an end to the
ceremonies.
Dr. Eisenhower, former presi
dent of Kansas State college, took
over his duties at the College
July 1. Between 1924 and 1943, he
held government positions with
the Department of State, the De
partment of Agriculture, and the
Office of War Information.

Receive Awards
Two College horticulturists re
ceived the top 1950 Vaughan
awards in horticultural science,
presented during sessions or the
American Society for Horticul
tural Science at Columbus, 0.,
last Wednesday.
Dr. John G. Seeley, professor
of floriculture, received the Vaug
han award in that department.
Robert K. Dennett, graduate as
sistant in plant breeding, was
junior author of the paper which
won the Vaughan award in vege
table crops, along with W. A.
Frazier of the University of
Hawaii.
