TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 1950 Chimes Adds Five Chapters In East-West Coast Merger Chimes, national junior honorary, recently increased its mem bership from eight, to 13 chapters as it merged with Key and Scroll a junior honorary active on the West Coast. The merger was completed at the Chimes national convention held at Ohio State university from Sept. 1 to Sept. 3. Chimes was founded on the Pennsylvania State College campus in 1947 with four chapters as charter members. Members are chosen on the basis of scholorship, leadership, and campus activities. At present there are 19 active members on campus, who recently aided in Orientation week activities. This semester the local chapter has a new advisor. Miss Patricia Thompson, assistant to the Dean of Women, will be on campus for the first time to guide the Chimes activities. Soon to be published on campus will be the first edition of Key Notes the national publication of the organization. Be f ore the honoraries combined the maga zine was called the Clapper. The new national editor, Elizabeth Hill; a junior at the College, will become a member of the National Executive Council. This year's officers are Nancy McClain, president; Grace Por rello, vice president; Eleanor Griffith, secretary; and Margaret Betz, treasurer. Rose Eifert is senior advisor. Freshmen Women With 2.5 Average May Join Honorary Girls who maintain a 2.5 average during their freshman year whether on campus or at a center are eligible for Alpha Lambda Delta, national fresh man honorary. Freshmen at Penn State will be tapped in the spring semester of their first year. New soph omores will be selected this fall oh the basis of their first semester grades at the center. Founded in 1924 Alpha• Lambda' Delta, which was founded at the University of Illinois on May 31, 1924, has 54 active chapters. Each year senior certificates are awarded to mem bers of the society at the College who have maintained their 2.5 average throughout their college years. Elaine Notari is president of the group.
