1, has had a varied career as a
journalist and government official.
Born. Sept. 15,: 1899, in Abilene,

as ; 'Dr.' Eisenhower was a city
editor in, that city. He also served
as an assistant professor of jour
nalism ' at Kansas State, from
which' he received his B.S. degree
in 1924. He served in the diplo
matic field as an American vice
consul at Edinburgh,. Scotland.
• Until named president of Kan
sas State, most of his work was
in the field of writing. He re
ceived an. L.L.D. degree from
Wichita University in 1944, and a
.D.Sc. degree from the Colorado
State College the following year.

From 1926 to 1928, •he was an
assistant to the United States
Secretary of Agriculture; In 1928
he becam'e director of information
for the Department of Agricul
ture, • a pbst he held until 1940.
In 1942 he became associate direc
tor Of the Office of War Infor
mation, a • post he held until he
becathe president of Kansas State.
He was author of numerous fed
eral bulletins and leaflets, rand
co-author of a 'book, "The United
States Department of Agriculture:
Its. Structure , and, Function." In
addition, .he.was :editor of the

. The annual Summer Reception
for the summer session • students
and faculty will,be held in White
Hall, the women's phYsical edu
cation building, from 8:30 pam. to
11:30 p.m. Friday. • '
Between 2,500 and 3,000 stu
dents and faculty, members are
expected to attend, the reception
which will be the first social af
fair of •the Main Summer Session.
The receiving line will be in
the game room from 8:30. to 9:30
p.m. -President and Mrs. Eisen
hower will attend the affair if
they are available and in town.
Danding will be held in the main
gymnasium, music being provid
ed by Don Peebles .and his • or
chestra. ' Refreshments will be
served in Room 105, and cards
will - be proVided for those who
do not" Wish to dance..

Summer Collegian commences
with today's issue, according to
William Dickson, 'editor. Summer
Collegian will be issued thereafter
every. Tuesday of the Main' Ses
sion.
' Students are reminded that
a" Collegian subscription is not
included in summer fees. •All -
regularly published • issues are
priced at five cents and will be
obtained at the Student Union
desk in Oki Main and at the
Collegian stand in front of the
Corner Room, which will be set
up each day of publication.
• Subscriptions to Summer Col
legian - are 25 - cents ,for all six
issues and insure . subscribers of
receiving each -issue on day of
publication. Subicribers will pick
up their. copies: at •Student• Union
or at •the• Collegian••stand. •

charge if applicable at Section 8. Report from
