TUESDAY, MAY 23, 1950 Alpha Gamma Rho Wins Track Crown Collision Mars 880 Relay Event, Phi Delta Theta Protests Meet - By DAVE COLTON Alpha Gamma Rho unofficially won the intramural track champ ionship last night, in finals that were marred by a disputed finish in the last event of the evening, the 880 yard relay. • The team championship was at stake in this event, and Alpha Phi Alpha was awarded the decision after Phi Delta Theta was dis qualified. Their number two man in the relay collided with Alpha Phi Alpha's than. This decision cost Phi Delta Theta' the team championship; since they needed these points to win. Phi Delta Theta proteste,d the decision, and a conference of intramural offi cials will be held to decide the winner Theta Chi and Alpha Phi Alpha tied for second place with ten team points, and Phi Delta Theta was third with nine points. Alpha Phi Alpha's winning time in the 880 was 1:36.8, and this time broke the former record even though Johnson, collided and fell to the . track. Earle Mundell, speedy football player, covered the final 220 yards of the relay in amazing time to finish second, and after a discussion of the judges, the decision was awarded Alpha Phi Alpha. , Earle Mundell, Alpha Phi Al pha, won the 100 yard dash in 10.5. He was followed "by Charles Wilson, Alpha Gamma Rho, Will, iam Hickey, Phi Delta Theta, Will iam Abbot, Sigma Phi Epsilon, and John Reese, Phi Delta Theta. Herb Taft, Delta Tau Delta, won the 440 yard dash in the good time of 52.5. He overtook Jack Hoerner, Theta Chi, in the stretch. After downing Hobart College Saturday afternoon, 16--6, Penn State's lacrossemen are pointing toward the trip to Ithaca this weekend with hopes of winning Penn State's one hundreth la crosse game. On Friday afternoon, the Lions meet Ithaca College, and then on - Saturday they, travel across town to meet the Big Red of Cor nell. Chances for Coach Nick Thiel's men to hit the century mark are good since the Ithacans lost to Hobart, and the Big Red just eked out a win over the States men. Saturday, the Nittanies. played their best ball of the season against the Hobart ten and had little trouble winning their sec ond game of the year. After the visitors opened the scoring shortly after' the'conte'st' got under way, the Lions got up steam and poured 12 straight goals into the visitors' nets before the Hobart men could muster an other point. In a hotly-contested game last night, Phi Delta Theta won the Intramural soccer crown by a score of 1-0, dropping Tau Kappa Epsilon in two overtime periods. s The game was a close one the Whole way through, with neith er team dominating the play. The breaks, could have gone either way at any time, and the outcome was ,unsure even in the last few hectic minutes of play. The margin of victory was a corner kick in the second extra period. It was called after a fierce mix-up in front of the TKE goal and provided the necessary one point. • The Phi Delts have won the close ones the whole way through, relying on a strong defense to carry them through. They stopped Triangle 1-0, and Pi Kappa Phi by the same score. Then came two overtime games, Sigma Phi Sigma losing out 2-0 by virtue of two corner kicks: A corner kick also decided the Phi Epsilon Pi game.
