May Queen Primary Elections
To Take Plaee On Monday
Primary elections of the May Queen attd her Maid of Honor
will take place in the second flbor lounge of Old Main-Monday,
April 17. The final elections are on Wednesday* April 19, among
the top three of each position.
Nine senior women are seeking the May< Queen title, and six
freshman women are up for Maid of Honor.

nor, Louise Drozdiak, Beverly
Gearhart, Tereas Gonsky, Pa
tricia High, Lorraine Stotler,
Victoria Williams, and Marie
Wrobelski are the May Queen
candidates.

are Barbara Baker, Atherton;
June Gernet, Frazier; Jo Hutch
eon, Atherton; Sue Knapp, Ath
erton; Nancy Showers,. Ather
ton; and Dorothy White, Co-op.
' All women students may vote
for both the May Queen ' and
her Maid of Honor. At the time
of'the elections, 65 senior wom
en ' may , sign up to participate
m the Hemlock chain. The girls
m th’e chain assist in making it
up.
Pictures Displayed
Pictures of the candidates are
being displayed in Atherton,
MacAllister,-McElwain, and Sim
mons. The pictures will be at
the polls Monday and Wednes
day.
The two runners-up for May
Queen are the senior attendants.
The two Maid-of-Honor runners
-up will be the freshman attend
ants. A special May Day com
mittee choses the sophomore
and. junior attendants,' plus, the
freshman’jesters, - sophomore her
alds, and the 20 senior women
who make up the . Honor Arch.
May Day ceremonies are being
held on front campus this year
on Saturday, May 13. The day’s
program, includes an Open House
at the women’s dormitories from
2 to 3:30 p.m.; teas in the lounges
from 2:30 to 3:30; the May Day
ceremony at 4:30; and a dance
in, Recreation Hall in the even T
iiig.
The Queen and her court will
be honored at the > dance.

election of candidates for May.

Kappa Delta, Delta Zeta
Win In IM Badminton
Kappa . Delta and Delta <Zeta opened the fourth week of WRA
intramural ..badminton the week before vacation by each winning *a
set of singles, Kappa Delta 2-il, 11-3, 11-8, and Oelta Zeta'li'- 4 6, IT-b!
Delta Zeta also won the doubles 11-0,15-10. Also in League I, Gamma

honors in the singles, 11-1, 11-2,

One set of singles/ 11-0, 11-0,
though Phi. Sigma Sigma won
the other, 11-6, 11-7 as well as
the doubles, 15-6/15-7. '
League 111
In League 111 Delta Delta Del
ta scored 11-0, 11-1, 11-4, 11-2
in the singles, but bowed' to Al
pha Chi Omega in the doubles,
15-2, 15-5. Theta Phi Alpha
scored 11-8; 11-7 .and Kappa Al
pha Theta' scored 11-0, 11-1 in
the single games of their match,
but Kappa Alpha Theta, won the
doubles, 15-8, 15-14.
Tuesday night .Alpha Gamma
Delta won the singles, 11-3, 11-0,
11-2, 11-3 against 'McElwain in
League IV. McElwain recovered
in the doubles, 15-2, 15-9. Phil
otes forfeited to Beta Sigma Omi

Gamma Phi’s Add
Sixth YB Victory
The sixth week of intramural
yolleyball got underway on
Tuesday night with Gamma Phi
Beta adding the sixth stroke
to its win column by receiving
a forfeit from Zeta Tau Alpha.
Fresh from their Easter vaca
tion Kappa Delta trounced Kap
pa Alpha Theta, 41-19 in the sec
ond League I game. Gaynell
Wagner and Nancy Newcomer
led their team in scoring hon
ors. ■
A strong second period en
abled the undefeated Kappa
Kappa Gammas to double up
Delta Delta Delta,. 40-20. Jean
Malcolm helped to turn the
score the Kappa’s way by add
ing 15 points. . Delta Gamma
registered its third win by edg
ing out Chi Omega, 30-23. The
DG’s high scoring. Nancy Bodli
made 9 points.
MacAllisier Win
League Ill’s major l- contenders,
Mac Allister and McElwain, faced
each other on the volleyball
court for their second tilt on
Wednesday night. This time Mac
turned the tables by decisively
downing McElwain, 42-20. Ahead
by only five points / at. the half,
20-15, Peg Muth and June Dag
er helped to sew up the game
for Mac. In their previous meet
ing, the McElwain volleyers, los
ing 12-16 at the half time whistle,
pulled together for a final, score
of 36-29. With five wins and one
loss apiece, these two teams will
probably have to get together
again to decide the League 111
championship.
: Alpha Omicron Pi' and Alpha
Xi Delta both failed to show
up for, their League 111 game.
Leonides out-volleyed Alpha
Gamma Delta, 49-24 in their
League IV game. Still unbeaten
the strong, independent crew dis
played their usual good team
work. Jackie Schoch garnered 14
points for the'victorious Leon
ides. . ' .
Omega split .the singles, Ath II;
11-6, 11-2, and Chi. Omega .11-
5, 7-11, 11-8. Ghi-. Omega took
the. doubles 15-6, 15-6.
Alpha Omicron Pi ..scored a
complete victory over Delta
Gamma, in League VI Thursday
night, winning : the singles 11-9,
6-11, 12-10,: 11-4, 11-2, and the
doubles 15-l, 15-1. Leonides hiet
its first defeat when Phi Mu won
one set of singles, 11-9, 6-11, 11-
6. Leonides won«the other sin
gles, 4-11, 11t4,‘SU-3 and the
doubles, 16-14, ~ 15-11.

lecturer and university profess

to the College on April 24, when
she will speak at the WSGA
Convocation.
Following Dr. Gilbreth’s ad

Dr. Gilbreth last visited Penn
State in January when she spoke
to members of the school of En
gineering and Home Economics-
In addition to being, selected
“Woman of the Year” in 1948,
she and her husband were the
subjects of the best seller, Cheap
er by the Dozen, written by two
of her children.
The 'A SGA lecture, which will
be' held in Schwab Auditorium,
and an informal reception in
McElwain lounge afterwards will
be open to all .students and fac
ulty members. _
