president John Senior said that
it is "solely to inspire action by
the groups" and that there was
no force involved.
The resolution as adopted reads,
in part, "it is realized that fra
ternities must keep . . . the right
of free choice . . . many fraterni
ties are limited by nationally im
posed constitutional restr i c
tions . . .
"Fraternities . . . are chartered
by a state endowed . . . institution
• . . responsible to the people of
the Commonwealth of Pennsyl
vania.
"Interfraternity council should
not attempt to coerce any of its
component organizations into ac
tion which would jeopardize their
existence . . .
"1. Be it resolved that (IFC)
go on record as opposed to the ex
istence of fraternity constitutional
clauses discriminating against
persons on the basis of race, re
ligion or creed.
"2. And that all member fra
ternities seriously consider this
issue and take whatever action
they deem advisable to have such
discriminatory clauses remov
ed..
"3. And that yearly report on
such actions be made to IFC by all
fraternities whose constitutions
contain restrictive or discrimina
tory clauses."
