PAGE EIGHT Old Cliques -- (Continued from page six) dates up for election are not fit to hold office." No names were mentioned, but within two days a Nittany Independent candidate was dropped from the ballot for not meeting scholastic require ments. Anoth e r flare-up occurred when two former members of the pre-war Campus clique, in a letter to Collegian, charged that the changing of the Key party's name to Campus-Key was an underhanded effort to en list the support of the old party's members. It was asserted that the move had failed and that Campus clique remnants were' supporting the Nittany Indepen dent candidates. A sharp denial appeared the next day in Collegian with the counter-charge that members of the Nittany Independent party had earlier proposed a coalition with the Key clique against the independent interests, and that the former party had violated its 40-60 representation ratio by placing only two independents among its twelve candidates. Nittany Victory As the campaign smoke clear ed, however, 44 per cent of the student body went to the polls in the Armory and handed the Nittany Independents a decisive victory. The Campus-Key candi dates for 'All-College and junior and sophomore class offices were defeated and that party gained •Sy Recent National Survey control in the senior class by only a narrow margin. Thomas Lannen, defeated ju nior class nominee, went on later, however, to become the next All-College President, prov ing that a Penn State election is "anybody's ball game."
