PAGE EIGHT Rink Report Made All-College Cabinet Ice To Provisions lor the construction and operation of a student ice skating rink were submitted to All-College Cabinet in a report presented at a meeting of the group Thursday evening. Prepared by Robert Fast, who is acting as a one-man committee of investigation for' the project, the report recommended: 1. The rink be constructed and maintained by the department of physical plant on the practice football field. 2. Four hundred dollars be pro vided by the College to cover con struction and maintenance costs. 3. No charge be made for the use of the rink by students. 4. Other provisions, including policing of the rink and a skatirtg schedule, be decided upon at a later date. Cabinet accepted the report as complete but did not act upon it. Fast said that the administra tion, the School of Physical Edu cation, and the department of physical plant are sympathetic with the general plan. Efforts made last year to pro vide skating facilities for the stu dent body met with little success. During the Christmas holiday, snow banks were constructed and the practice field flooded. There must be frost in the ground, Fast explained, in order t'o keep the water above ground level. Also, two or three flood ings are needed to obtain a: satis factory skating surface. “Prenarations for the flooding of the field,” Fast added, “prob ably will be made during ■ the Christmas vacation since the best skating weather comes in Jan uary. Of course, the success of the program depends to a large,ex tent on the type of weather we get.” Campus ice-skating reached its greatest degree of success in re cent years in 1938, when. a long stietch of cold , weather gave stu dents 31 days of skating. The rink then was located on the tennis courts opposite Jordan Hall. CLASSIFIEDS SLIDE RULE Pickett and Eckel, Nov. 7th. Return to Student Union desk. Re ward.
