Bedenk begins his first season as head grid coach, but served for 19 seasons with the diamond team. His 1949 baseballers were runners-up in the NCAA District 2 playoffs. Speidel has tutored the matmen for more than 20 years, and annually fields a tough aggregation. He is looking forward to a big year for his wrestlers in 1950. Weltsione was picked as the United States' Olympic gym coach in 1948, after his Lion gymnasts completed the cycle by capturing the Eastern National Col legiate and NAAU crowns. Three of his pupils were on the eight-man USA team. Softball Loops Muddled; Playoffs Start Tuesday Teams entered in the Main Session Softball League are urged by C. M. "Dutch" Sykes, recreation director, to play off all post poned games by Monday evening. In order to be eligible far the playoffs, which will start Tuesday. a team must complete its schedule. In case the teams have not played all their games, the intra- mural department will pick a champion from each league, A, B and C, to engage in the champ ionship series. Team managers are also re minded to report their game scores to the intramural office, extension 95, as soon as possible, or by informing Sykes in his of fice in Rec. Hall. 3 UNBEATEN Only three of the eight nines that were unbeaten last week have maintained their clean re cords. In League B, the Yahoos and Red Valley are riding on the crest of undefeated strings. The Yahoos, holding a half-game ad vantage over the Valleyites, have won five straight contests. These two teams Looked up in a duel last night, with the pos sibility that the winner clinched the race for League honors. In League A, the high-flying Newman Club was dashed to the ground by an upstart Reds' team Monday, 4-2. It was the first loss for the Newman Clubbers, and their lead over the second place Intellectuals dwindled to a half game. Newman Club has played one more game than the Intel lectuals. Both teams, as well as the third place Rockets, were unbeaten last week, but suffered losses since then. The Rockets, who socked the Intel lectuals, 11-8, were beaten by Newman Club by a 5-2 tally. Zeta Beta Tau, which was tied for first place in League C with Sigma Pi last week, was slashed, 7-1, by Sigma Phi Epsilon, which moved into third place as a re sult of the win. Sigma Pi owns a 2-and-0 recwd, and failed to play a game last week. LEAGUE C As a result ZBT, while behind in the percentage column with Sigma Pi, is actually tied for first place. SPE is running a half game behind in third place, tied with Phi Kappa. The League C race is still far from over, and is the most wide-open scramble in the Main Session loop.
