The Badgers went on to win six straight be fore annexing the 1948 NCAA boxing• crown. Once again this year Coach John Walsh is at the helm of a formidable array of fighters, in cluding last season's 119-pound NCAA champ, Steve Gremban, and John Lendenski, 165-pound national champ in 1947. Coach Leo Houck has been pleased with the improvement shown by his charges and, with two exceptions, will send the same team against the Badgers that performed against Syracuse last Saturday. Lou Guthrie, winner of his in augural Rec Hall bout against Western Maryland, replaces 011ie Wallace in the 135-pound bout. John Deck has been selected to replace the injured Fred Smith at 125 pounds. There is a possibility that ex wrestler Laird Robertson may replace Jim Maloney in the 135- pound division. THE DAILY COLLEGIAN, STATE COLLEGE. PENNSYLVANIA inst Strong Invaders Today . . Q. Quint Nabs Circuit Crown Q Quintet slid into the inde pendent, league "A", IM basket ball title Thursday night on the strength of a first-period lead that held up, and a costly forfeit against the runner-up Smooth Schmoos. The champ's victory came over the Speedsters. 14-12, in a tight defensive struggle at Rec Hall that saw the winners fight to a 9-4 first half margin, then cling desperately to capture the crown. But the Smooth Schmoos' for feit was the blow that upset the circuit. The only team with a chance to catch the Q'ers, the Schmoos were conspicuously "in absentia" when the chips were down. Jordan Hall walked off with the unearned triumph. Section 10 and Murgas locked horns in a battle of the "B" league leaders on the same program—a fight that gave the winners, Sec tion 10, a full game lead with only one more contest to play. Tied in standings before the game, the two squads scrambled to 'a 14-13 first half, but with Dick Strand and Frank Lorence dunk ing six counters apiece in the last canto, the Section 10'ers rallied to a decisive 32-19 win. Vought was high scorer for the victors with 11 points. Sigma Chi pulled into a frater nity league "F", first-place tie by socking Phi Gamma Delta 28-24 on another court, when Bill West ran wild to plunk a dozen coun ters for the winners. In other games, Beaver House topped Ward 2, 12-10; the Red Flashes bumped Matilda Chi, 27- 12; Ceramics bounced A.R.0., 24- 17; Cody Manor trapped the Lions, 19-15; Ath.
