WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 10, 1948 Lion Harriers Meet Nation's Top Teams in IC4-A Clash Coach Chick Werner's Nittany Lion cross-country team will vie with more than 200 other top-notch harriers, from over 30 major colleges and universities, for the IC4-A crown at New York City Monday afternoon. The Lions, victorious in three of four dual meets this season, should be one of the five leading contenders for the title now held by Manhattan. Other standouts are Michigan State, only team to defeat the Wernermen in dual competition this season, Army, Syracuse, Rhode Island State and Manhat tan. Michigan State, Army and Syracuse are all undefeated in dual competition this year. "Michigan State should take the title," Lion mentor Werner predicted. "Army and Syracuse seem to be the next best teams, and Rhode Island State and our own squad will probably battle it out for fourth place." INVINCIBLE The Spartans, on the basis of their performance against the Lions here, seem almost invinci ble. Four men circled the five mile course in less than 27 min utes while the Green and White clad runners trounced the Nit tanyites, 21-36. As a comparison, only Captain Horace Ashenfelter among the Blue and White harriers can con sistently run the same course in less than the 27-minute time.
