International Workshops
Discuss Welfare, Travel
Should American students be represented in the International
Union of Students? How can foreign student relief drives be imple
mented and coordinated on American campuses? What bonds of
friendship can be forged between American students and the exist
ing Student Unions of foreign countries? How can foreign tours be
arranged for more American students?
Concrete answers of practica
colleges will be sought in two
International Affairs Workshops.
One of them will be attended by
each delegate, except the special
committeemen who meet con
currently.
An extensive international
program has been undertaken by
NSA, both regionally and na
tionally. Negotiations with lUS,
a tri-nation tour, and work as
the only recognized American
student organization on the UN's
Educational, Scientific and Cul
tural Organization, are among
the intern ational accomplish
ments.

Exchange
This summer's tri-nation tour
will be discussed by the Student
Travel and Exchange Workshop
from the viewpoint of future ex
tension and improvement. Much
groundwork needs to be accom
plished before the additional
tours being planned by NSA for
next summer can materialize.
Louis leradi of Rittenhouse
College, chairman of the re
gional Committee on Interna
tional Correspondence, will re
port on the distribution of for
eign students' letters to campuses
throughout the state.
Many letters, written in many
languages including En glis h,
have been gathered by NSA's In
ternational Correspondence Com
mission, and sent to each region.
leradi will tell of his methods of
distribution to regional college
students, and request suggestions
for improvement.
NSA sponsorship of foreign
lecture series in regional colleges
is another item on the agenda.
The speakers would be students,
instructors or non-academic lec
turers with wide backgrounds of
experience in foreign nations.

student dormitory unions.
Incensed by what he consid

dents, Smith demanded that the
lUS Secretariat condemn the
dispersal of the demonstration,
the arrests and the work of the
Communist action committees.
The lUS conducted an investiga
tion of the affair.
In its defense of the action
committees, the lUS was not so
categorical. The Secretariat re
fused to adopt any part of
Smith's proposal. He and 2:llis
therefore resigned.
In his letter of resignation,
Ellis pointed out lUS's generous
help of all students suppressed
by right-wing elements, and its
ignoring the plight of students
oppressed by Communists. He
traced the evolution of commu
nist domination in lUS, and
stated that lUS failure to con
