IFC Accepts Two Parts
Of Point-Rating System
Inter-Fraternity Council voted
to accept two parts of the pro
posed three-part point-rating
system of campus fraternities at
the council meeting Wednesday
night.
The parts adopted by the council
are those dealing with scholarship
and athletic point ratings. The
third part, dealing with activities
Of house members, was returned
to the committee, who submitted
the system, for revision.
Under the proposed plan, each
fraternity is alowed points ac
cording to the number of mem
bers actively engaged in activi
ties. The fraternity securing the
highest number of points will be
accredited as the outstanding
fraternity on campus.
A report on the proposed pledge
rushing system was made by Ro
bert Keller but was turned down
by council members. The pledg
ing code for the fall semester of
NU was adopted.
Sixty-nine feet was the depth
of the first producing oil well,
operated by Colonel E. L. Drake.

Nine members of the women's
debate team were initiated into
Delta Alpha Delta, women's
speech honorary, at services held
in 405 Old Main Sunday after
noon. New members are Chris
tine Altenburger, Florence Fein
berg, Shirley Foulke, Jeanne
Hootman, Dorothy Knowles, Anne
Kovalenko, Janet Kurtz, Bar
bara Schiffman, and Florence
Wakeling.
Helen Dickerson was elected

granted a 14-month contract re
newal to the College engineering
mechanics research department
on its projects to determine the
mechanical properties of plastics.
