Jim Gehrdes, Penn State speed merchant, and Jack Dianetti, Michigan State runner, staged a point-scoring duel in Saturday's contest at East Lansing with Gehrdes winning the encounter by adding 15 1 / 2 points to the Lions' score. The Altoona ace clipped the high hurdles in :15.1, the low hurdles in 23.7 and scored his third first place in the 100-yard dash with a :10.1 mark. These times, although slower than last week's, were scored in a strong crosswind with the temperature around 40 degrees. Gehrdes also tied for third in the high jump. WINS DASH For the first time this season, Dianetti showed his form of last year as he set two meet and field records in taking the 440-yard dash in 48.6 and the 880-yard run in 1:54.5. Dianetti also ran the anchor leg on the mile relay which the Spartans won in 3:24.4. The one-two, two-one combi nation of Karver and Ashenfelter in the mile- and two-mile runs retained its prescribed pattern. Karver captured the mile 'in 4:25.2 with Ashenfelter second, and Ashenfelter scored in the two-mile in 9:22.5 for a new meet record, with Karver second. The Kar ver- Dianetti feud failed to materialize when the Spartan runner was omitted from the mile-run lineup, The Summaries Pole Vault 1, Mayo Arndt and Robert Madden.
