Max Dercurn, former ski coach at. the College and fathe r of skiing in thfis region, set the giant slot= for the event. The course was laid on the, bottom portion of the Big Dipper Trail Where snow Conditions were excellent for the race. A crowd of approximrately 100 snow-starved enthusiasts gathered at the steeliest point on the course to watch a number of exciting spills and some fine exhibitions of controlled skiing. On this portion of the run, Thurston gained time to give him. first place as he flashed through the control flags with scarcely any decrease in speed. The other skiers were either checking speed before the flags or going into them too fast and ending up in the woods. Thurston's winning time was 55 seconds, which gave him a 1.2 second advantage over George Quimby, who came in second. Dercum equaled Quimby's time in opening the meet as a non competitive - fore-runner. Max Peters was up to his ex cellent standard as he snaked clown the 'mountain side to take third place. He was followed by Herb Wahl. EDNA DERCUM PERFORMS Edna Dercum, wife of Max, gave a beautiful performrance of controlled skiing and excellent form as she finished in filth place.
