Muhlenberg Tilt Promises
Tough Test for Lawthermen
Mules Mark Mid-Point
Of Lions' Home Stand
Another Eastern Vasketball
headliner moves into Rec Hall
'aturday night as .Coach John
Lawther's cag e r s take on the
Muhlenfberg- Mules.
The appearance of Muhleriberg
marks the mid-point of the long
est home stand
,the Lawthermen
will enjoy until the final stages
of the season.
LOTS OF TALENT
Just about every team on the
Lion schedule for this year is
crammed with. returning court
talent and Muhlenberg is no ex
ception.
Around • the three players re
turning from last year's outfit
which placed fourth in Madison
Square Garden invitation tourney
play, . Coach Lee Conker has
molded a quintet which• again
ranks with the best in Eastern
basketball,
BROTHERS AT GUARD
Probably starting Saturday at
guards for Muhlenbercr will be
the Domvan brothers--Tarry and
Ed—who contribute' mightily to
the prestige. of Cooker's aggrega
tion.
Harry Donavan,', who ranks as
the fifth highest scorer in the
state at present with 97 points
or a 13.9 average for eight games,
will ,undoubtedly start at right
guard. Harry Was the leading
pointmisker for the Mules last
season with . an eye-opening 3899
points.
Edi Donavan, ' who has been in
terchanged at the center post, will
probably start at the other guard
post against the Lions.
THE RECORD
4iddled by injuries 'for the first
several weeks. of the campaign,
the Mules dropped two of their
first four games but bounced back
to put together a threegame win
ning streak up to last night's en
counter with Lehigh. • • ,
After trimming Moravian 67-47,
Muhlenberg dropped a 34-33 de,.
cisiOn to Temple. 'Newark U. fell
96-34 but. Princeton .upset the
Coaker cart, 37-33. Then the boys
from Allentown began -to. roll.
They moved over Villanova 59-45,
humbled previously undefeated
Penn 57-50 and outscored La-
Salle 59-44.
Following an early season in
jury, Captain Red Baldwin is back
at one of the forward spots for
the Mules. The lanky Baldwin
scored 369 points during the 1944_
45 season and put together 332
last year.
BALDWIN SPARKPLUG
It was Baldwin who led Muh
lenberg to a 47-41 victory over
Syracuse in the first round of
Garden invitation play with 33
points last year. The Mules lost
out to Rhode Island State 59-49
in the second. round but Baldwin
still managed to garner 19 tallies
against the free-sooring Reds.
Rhode Island lost a close one,
46-45, to Kentucky in the finals
and: Muhlenberg had to be con
tet .with, fourth plaice, losing out

To Fight at 125-pounds
For its first trip to Rec Hall,
the University of Miami will
bring a strong boxing team to
Rec Hall tomorrow. night to open
the 1947 Nittany Lion. boxing
sch.edule.
Probable ace of the Miami team
is Jim Demos, 125-. pounder, who
was a pre-war letterman and, in
1943, reached the finals in the
National Intercollegiates at Wis
consin.
Hurricane coach Billy Regan
has named Billy Johnson of Du
luth, Minn., as his 130-,pound en
trant. Johnson is a freshman who
has hd some boxing experience
in the Army.
TWO AT 135 POUNDS
Two lads are still vying for the
call at 135 pounds and both may
make the trip here, one to meet
the Lions and one to box against
Catholic University Monday night
in Washington. Max Cleveland
was on the V-. 12 team at Miami
while Scott Hogue boxed on Navy
teams for four years.
Jim Duffy, an Army dischargee,
has romped off with the honors
at 145 pounds while Bill Eisnor,
another V-l 2 vet, will start at 155
pounds.
Coach Regan has still to choose
his man to oppose Lion captain
Jackie Tighe at 165 pounds. Jim
Larkin, a pre-war Miami boxer,
and Tom Mettson, a Navy vet, are
the leading contenders.
Ws still uncertain that Leo
Houck, Jr. will start against his
father's team at 175 pounds. Leo
shares the chores at that weight
with Phil Kaplan. Both men are
members of the 1946 Miami foot
ball team . with Houck being a
sensational pass catching end and
Kaplan a guard.
