Harriers Longenecker To Captain Blue and White Squad Two undefeated cross-country teams will meet on New. Beaver Field tomorrow afternOon, as Coach Chick Werner's harriars defend their record against a strong Pitt .squad which claims three shut-outs to date. The meet will start ten minutes before the intermission of the Penn State.: Fordam football game. Captaining the Lion harriers will be Don "Pop" Longenecker= dubbed "Pop" by his teammates because of his age. Longenecker is a 28-year old ex-GI who last. fall; - as a freshman. came out for indoor track just to keep his frat ernity brother company. Longenecker received his letter in track last spring, and is consid ered as one of the top-notch per formers on the team. Whether Gerry Karver will run in Saturday's meet is still a ques tion. Karver has placed first in every cross-country meet this sea son and is. considered one of the outstanding runners on the squad. Werner will select seven run ners for the meet with Pitt. They will be Chosen from Captain Don Longnecker, Gerry Karver, Curt Stone, Horace Ashenfelter, Howie Horne, Mitch Williams, Fred Len nox, Bch Auman, Tony Vigilante, Bill Wills, and Tink Candy. The Lion pigskin squad downed Bucknell 48-6 in their opener, "quick-kicked" a victory over Syracuse 9-0, dropped a close one to Michigan State during the Homecoming, 19-16. and then bounced back into the win column last Saturday with a 6-2 vic tory over Colgate. Coach Jeffrey's record includes three wins and a tie. After white-,washing Gettysburg 5 . 0 and Bucknell 7-0, the soccermen took over Colgate 5-1. Last week the Nittany squad tied the Middies after Navy scored their tally on a "fluke" kick in the final period. Chick Werner's harriers claim three victories over oppo nents Syracuse 15-40, Michigan State 25-30, and Cornell 15-40. The gridiron classic and the cross-country meet will be on home- grounds as the Higginsmen tangle with Fordham and the harriers compete against undefeated Pitt. The soccermen travel to Ithaca. N. Corporation Boxing Dean Schott Beta Sigma Rho Splashes to Win In IM Swimming Beta Sigma Rho swimming out, traced Delta Chi in each of the dashes, to record a 244.3 win in the College intramural swimming tourney. The.losers sole first place was in the diving exhibition. Joe Erhlich of the Beta Sigs was the first event winner as he ploughed through 60-yards of free style swimming in 39:8 seconds. Colleague Joe Glick back stroked to victory in the afternoon's se cond race. Glick finished strong to snatch first place away from Delta Chi's Schumacher who had led from the start.
