This change came when Col lege officials ruled that only pre war students with upperclass rat ing* would be admitted to the campus in the Fall. While the first-year students will be admitted .to Penn State, they will be assigned to other institutions as freshmen-in-4wait ing. They will not be eligible for College sports until . their soph omore year. Football Coach Bob Higgins and other Lion mentors dislike the change because it takes away one of their most valuable sour ces of material and also deprives freshmen of a year's prepping Under varsity coaches. Since 1942, when freshman ruies were relaxed for the dura tion, first year players have dominated the Penn State sports picture. In football, freshmen were represented by Larry Joe, Joe Colone, Bobby Williams, Johnny Chuckran, Elwood Petchel, Sam TambUro, pronco Kosanovich, Chuck Diazenovich, Joe Tepsic an'd a variety.of others. The same was 'true of other sports, freshmen building the fOuridatiOns of the College's ath letic teams.
