Final Fling Dance
The Final Fling Dance will be
the last one this semester with the
music of the Statesmen 14,.a new
ly organized student band, playing
as a background M. White Hall
from 9 to 12 June 17. Tawny Hill,
Thespian songstress, will do the
vocals.
"We're charging only 7§ cents.
We don't expect to make aily
profit because the dance is part
the WRA co-recreation program
on campus," stated Elilabeth %Alf&
Kinley, president of WRA. The
dance is informal. WSGA is assist
ing in the plans.

at the Cleveland Air Races, later
joined, the RAF ferry, command.
After ferrying planes for Pan-
American and TWA in the early
years of the war, he accepted a
commission in the Army.
His book just off the presses,
"Bombers Across," was (written
three' times in longhand before
reaching the degree of success he
had planned. 'The Took is the
story of 'the trans-Atlantic Ferry
Command, opened with an intro
duction by Lowell Thomas.

lowa University Bestows
Engineer Degree On Prof
Frank W. Edwards, assistant
professor of civil engineering at
the College, has been awarded
the professional degree of civil
engineer by the University of
lowa in recognition of his pro
fessional experience and paper on
the hydraulic design of the Con
ches Dam in New Mexico.
Tests of a model dam which
were the basis of the study, were
conducted by Edwards in the U.
S. Waterways Experiment Station
at Vicksburg, Mississippi.
EdWards came to State College
lest September from North Car
olina,
.where he' had been senior
engineer in charge of planning
all army cantonments and air
fields in the U., S. Engineer Dis
trict of Wilmington. For that
work he was awarded the Army
Service Forces' commendation for
meritorious civilian service. For
three years he was chief of hy
draulic design hnd research for
the Third Locks project of the
Panama Canal and he hag had
other professional experience in
hydro-electric poWer• flood con
trol, • navigation and, irrigation
work in. the United States.
He is a member of the Ameri
can Society of Civil' • Engineers
and is co-author of a paper on
surges in . The Panama. Canal
which is currently under discus
sion in the proceedings of the
Society.

To Manage Portfolio
For Summer Semester
Ruth Constad was recently
elected editor and business 'man
ager of the Portfolio staff. Jean
Breskin was elected circulation
manager and Annette Dawer was
named advertising manager.
Members of the editorial staff
are Victor Danilov, Emil Kubek,
and Jacqueline Socol.
The business staff consists of
Sylvia Berger; Lila Blank, Ginger
Braverman, Lorraine Davidson,
Pearl Dower, Ruth Erlichman,
Dora Fisher, Brena Freed, Vera

ence Linker.
The July issue of Portfolio will
be on sale at Student Union on
