Livengood Jr., which prefaces the article, com mends Dean Steidle for assemb ling the collection. "To Dean Steidle's vision and energy the peeple of this State are indebted for this contribution to our culture, which will become more and more valuable from a historical standpoint as technical developments tend to transform our methods of recovery and man ufacture," Mr. Livengood writes. "Already we see in these paint ings types of industry now obso lete. or extinct, and - lost to pos terity-but for the pictorial. rec ords thus preserved." The gallery consists of 116 -or iginal oil paintings, 3 oil murals, 7 water colors; and 20 prints.. - Alderfer Conducts Sehtit Dr. Harold F. State College Enters National HIV AC Recruiting Campaign In connection with the Army's request for 70,000 women for the Women's Army Corps by Decem ber 7, State College is participating in the statewide drive for enlist ments. A booth manned by WAC repre sentatives will be set up some where in State College so that in terested women may get all infor mation they desire. Final recruit ing will take place in Altoona. Burgess A. E. Yougel urged State College women to enter the WAC at a meeting of representa tives from community organiza tions last night. Sgt.' Josephine Rothermel and Pvt. Edith Flynn of the Altoona WAC recruiting sta tion explained to the group plans for enlistment of an all-state divi sion of the WAC. Under the . state plan, all recruits from Pennsyl vania. will be. stationed together. The same basic salary as exists in the regular Army is followed. The recruiters urged the com mittee to bring before State Col lege women the importance of the WAC's services. Women aged from 20 to 50 years are eligible, while no educational requirements other than ability to paSs a mental and .physical examination are required. Brunner an nounced yesterday. * SALLY'S * THE COLLEGIA:T CA China Committee To Fete Chinese Prof The Penn State in China Com mittee will honor Dr. Wing-tsit Chan, professor of Chinese culture at Dartmouth College, at a lunch eon at the Nittany Lion Inn from 12:30 to 2 o'clock tomorrow after noon. Dr. Chan, who has had more than the average professor's share of adventures, was in China in 1937 when the Japanese attacked Peiping and was also in Honolulu when Pearl Harbor was bombed: Before taking his present posi tion at Dartmouth, Dr. Chan was professor of Chinese philosophy and institutions at the University of Hawaii. He was secretary and then dean of the faculty at Lingnan University after receiving his Ph.D. degree from Harvard in 1929. Members of the faculty and staff have been invited to Attend the luncheon.
