As a student, you’ve doubtless asked yourself many times what you ought to do to help win this war. What can you study that will be of practical assistance? RESEARCH BUREAU FOR RETAIL TRAINING UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH • Pittsburgh, Pa. * PAGE THREE COLLEGIAN SPORTS By STEPHEN SINICHAK .I ■ Sports Writer-^—. When the Lion track team em barks for Cornell this afternoon, one of Penn State’s best athletic teams will be gunning to continue their string of successes which includes an Indoor and Outdoor IC4-A championship garnered within a single season. Successes as were claimed by the track squad seldom gather the attention of sport fans through out the country, but when the Blue and White last March emer ged from the smoke in Madison Square Garden with a crown rest ing on their brows, a cry of "not fair" arose from the fans whose schools were left "in the dust" during the meet. However, the ICA-4 committee took matters into their hands and came out with a decision which did not deprive the Lions of their hard-earned win. At present, the Blue and White is the only team which can boast of a double in tercollegiate championship. Credit for the successes which the Lions enjoyed must, however, go to’ one Private Barney Ewell. Barney, the only three-time triple crown winner in track history, was the "big gun" for the track squad before he went to serve Uncle Sam. Today, despite the severe Army training of which he partakes, Barney still claims laurels in the cinder track and hardwood iloor. Several weeks ago, Barney competed in the Millrose Games to defend his 60-yard title which he earned last seasson with a world’s recory-tying mark of 6.1 seconds. This year, in spite of the little practice he was able tq work into his Army schedule, Barney made a repeat perform ance with a time of 6.2 seconds for the “60.” With such greats to remind them of Penn Slate's best, and with a will to carry on the string of suc cesses, the Lions invade Barton Hall tomorrow for their first dual meet of the 1943 season. Here’s hoping they win. da Phi 13 Phi Sigma Kappa 22, Delta Theta Sigma i 6. Alpha Sigma Phi 1. Alpha Gamma Rho 0 (forfeit). “Sigma Alpha Epsilon 1, Phi Sigma Delta 0 (forfeit).
