PENN STATE 1915 Higgins Pufs Charges Through Lengthy Scrimmage Sessions Daily Passing drills and blocking practice gave way to an hour and a half scrimmaging for 40 of the 70-odd grid candidates last night on 'New Beaver Field. It was the first scrimmage of the season for the Higginsmen. One squad composed mostly of freshmen battled against a var sity "green" and a varsity "blue" outfit, and conducted themselves in a favorable manner. The green squad with Van Lenten and Davis at ends; Kerns and Schoonover at the tackles; Perugini and Jaffurs, guards; Wo losky, center; Cenci, Brown, St. Clair. and Banbury in the back field 'had things pretty much their own way offensively against the freshman squad. During the first half hour of scrimmage the greens scored twice, once when "Sparky" Brown sliced off tackle from the thirty, and again on a Hot! Tired! Bothered! Cool Off At The 'A. With three upperclassmen hold ing down the center of their line, the freshmen waged vicious but futile war against the greens. Co lone, Reno, Joe, and Carpenter provided the backfield punch for the yearlings, with Robb and Pe zalski at ends, Knepp and Schell heimer, tackles; Brooks, center; McClosky and Kreuter, guards, all upperclassmen helping out. The blue outfit was riot so for tunate against the first year men, as both teams fought to a stand still. Poor blocking marred oth erwise good offensive threats by both outfits. For the blues, Baierl and Bell lined up at the terminal posts; Lebowitz, Sweitzer and Pratt alternated at tackle. Nobile and Suhey, first string guards on the 1941 freshman squad, along with Palazzi, center, held down the center of the line. State College, Pa.
