WEDNESDAY, JULY 29, 1942 Frosh Baseballers Beat Presbys, 9-8 Running amuck in the first inn ing of a seven frame game against the Presbyterian nine of the State College Church League, Penn State's freshman baseball team eked out a 9-8 victory on the New Beaver Field diamond last night. Twelve yearlings came to bat against Bud Carruthers in the first inning of the game, took him for five hits and scored seven runs with the help of five errors corhmitted by the Church Leag uers. Although Carruthers pitched better ball than Jack Berlin, yielding five hits against 11 given by the frosh hurler, the Presby terians were weak in fielding, racking up seven errors. Coaph Houck found consistent and well-balanced playing from -Fred Shaw at first base, who . turned in eight put outs with two 'spectacular overhead catches. Oth er outstanding frosh were Bud Davage, who hit two singles for four times at bat, scored two -runs and stole two bases; Bud Waxman, with two runs and one hit; and pitcher Jack Berlin, who struck out seven men and turned - in top notch fielding. .
