JUNE 2, 1942 Judicial Committee Letters Frosh To Begin Clarify Women’s Regulations Customs, Classes ~ Simultaneously Coed Offenses Result In Varied Penalties To clarify coed regulations, let ters composed by WSGA Judicial Committee, have been sent to all dormitory hostesses and checkers explaining the more common pen alties and offenses warranting them, stated Mcrjorie L. Sykes ’43, Judicial chairman. Among the standard penalties is a-' one o’clock removal. This means no dating on a weekend night from 5:45 p. m. until the next morning. Offenses warrant ing this punishment are being ten minutes late for a one o’clock, ten minutes late for an eleven o’clock, ■ and not signing out for riding. A lenient campus, no dating from 5:45 p. m. Friday to Mon day morning and keeping week day hours on weekends, is the penalty for five blackmarks, be ing ten to twenty minutes late for a one o’clock, ten to twenty min utes late for an eleven o’clock, and breaking one o’clock removals. Stricter penalties include a plain campus) no dating during a specified period and keeping weekday hours, and a strict cam pus. A strict campus consists of no dating during a specified per iod, no absence from campus, ap pearance in the dormitory by 5:45 p. m., and no telephone calls. A penalty of this nature may be given for failure to call when out of town and being unavoid ably, late, absence from dormitory over night without permission, drinking, leaving dormitory after closing hours, or before opening hours (5 a. m.), breaking fresh men customs, failure to cooperate with rules, .and- breaking penal ties. Blackmarks will be given as follows: one for extreme noise, one fbr failure to take telephone duty, two for not signing in, and two for 'not signing out. WELCOME FRESHMEN!! Relief ’43 heads Panhel and Hazel E. Gassman ’43 is IWA president. With 14'national sororities as members, Panhellenic invites two •representatives of each house to secve.on its Council. The presi dent and vice-president take office according to a rotating system among sororities. Miss Mary Jane 'Stevenson, assistant to the dean of women, acts in an advisory capa city. An alumna advisor and oth er Council officers are elected by delegates. In. cooperation with the Col lege’s accelerated program, Pan hellenic members will rush during the Summer semester according to a recently accepted code. THE DAILY COLLEGIAN Beginning on their first day of classes Tuesday, June 9, fresh man women are to decorate them selves with the traditional green hair ribbons and standard name cards, to be worn around their necks, stated Marjorie L. Sykes ’43, head of WSGA Judicial Com mittee. These articles, which may be purchased at downtown stores, are to be worn throughout the week, said Miss Sykes. After the first two weeks, ribbons and name cards may be discarded from 5:30 p. m. Friday to 8 a. m. Mon day, but must be worn at all other times. All freshmen are to keep off the grass until Move-Up Day, which is determined by the class’ good llehavior. The wearing of customs will also terminate at Move-Up Day. According to Penn State tradi tion, freshman women a lie re minded by Miss Sykes to hold doors open for upperclass women and faculty members when enter ing or leaving class rooms, dining rooms, and at all gatherings. When-an older person or an up perclass woman enters a room, .all freshman coeds must rise. IWA Freshman women who break customs shall appea.r before the Judicial Committee and be pun ished. in accordance with the sev erity of their offenses. Freshman Council is responsible for en forcing customs.- To further facilitate orientation, freshman semester will begin with a two-weeks non-dating period, including absolutely no as sociation with, men and checking in at dormitories by- 9 p. m. on week nights and 9:30 p. m. on weekends. Following this, freshman may have daily association with men on campus until 5:30 p. m. and weekend dating permissions? On weekends, from 5:30 p. m. Friday to 5 p. m. Sunday, fresh man women may sign out for 11 o’clock permissions. They may have two one o’clock permissions a month, to be taken at their own discretion on weekends. Those not signing out for week end late permissions must be in dormitories by 9 p. m.
