Rhein sent his daughter, Miriam, to college, he said he would be glad to pay her expenses, but he refused to send her favorite horse along, too. As a result, Miriam, who will sing on the Hour of Charm pro gram Sunday night, decided, to "work her horse through college." To do this, she got a job singing with Jimmy,'Eeyden's Penn State Collegians. With the money she earned she had enough for oats and other stuff horses eat, in addition to stable rent. That launching of a singing ca reer led to Miriam's being chosen as Penn State's representative on the Hour of Charm collegiate audi tion series. Miriam 'will get $lOO, plus $25 for spending money, plus an ex penses-Paid trip to New York, ac companied by Mrs. Shirley Bern reuter, of State College, whom she has chosen as her chaperon. In addition to her band career, Miriam ,has been active in both Thespians and Players and was a member of the College Choir in her freshman year. She is a senior life saver and goes for tennis and ice skating. She says that there are nine den tists in her family and that all the ladies study art. Besides her sing ing interests, Miriam plays the cello and the piano for pastime.
