' , Boxers Prepare For Rote As NCAA Host Niffany Swordsmen Lose Twice As Five Seniors End Fencing Careers Five Lion seniors wound up their fencing careers as ~ Penn State bowed to a strong New York University team, 17-10, Saturday, after being edged out on Friday by Rutgers, 14-13. The five swordsmen who fought their last intercollegiate matches are Co-captains Les Kutz and Elmer Lowenstein, Bill Sheriff, Doug Adams, and Ed Zarger. Penn State‘s forte in the two closing meets was epee. Against Rutgers, the Lion epee trio’won, 6-3. In New York, Saturday, the Lions dropped both the foil and sabre competition by 6-3 scores, but held the Violets to a 5-4 margin, in epee. THE DAILY COLLEGIAN Ridenour, Gleason, Scalzo Seek Titles By ROSS LEHMAN After blasting through the Eastern Intercollegiates last weekend for a lone Penn .State individual championship, Little Charlie Ridenour will team up \yith Captain Frank Gleason and Senior Joe Scalzo to train for the National Collegiate Athletic As sociation tourney in Bethlehem Friday and Saturday. Coach Charlie Speidel will not be able to enter a full squad at Lehigh, but this trio is certain to compete with Kerns a prob able fourth. Scalzo was runner up in the 145-pound class in 1939 and Gleason, despite his surprise upset in New York, is rated high in the 136-pound class. Penn State was named as host for the 1942 Eastern Intercollegi ate Wrestling association tourna ment and Captain Bob Eberie of Princeton was selected the outstanding wrestler in a coaches’ meeting after Saturday’s finals. • Clair Hess, Lion 128-pounder, deadlocked Yale and Princeton in a 21-point tie in the last bout of the tournament when he defeated Yale’s Brook Parker in a thrill ing, overtime bout, 6-5, for third place honors. Penn and Yale followed with 17 points, Penn State 16, Lehigh 7, Cornell 6, Army 2, Columbia and Syracuse 1, and Harvard -5. Lions Down Michigan In Last Dual Meet With a dual meet record of three victories, three defeats and one tie behind them, Penn State’s boxing Lions will begin training for their role as hosts to the N.C.A.A. tournament which takes place in Rec Hall, on March 27, 28, and 29. The mitmen closed their dual meet season by licking Michigan State, 4V6-3V2, at' East Lansing on Saturday. Except for Paul Scally and Chuck Peters, all of Leo Houck’s seniors boxers won their bouts. In a three-position match against Penn, Co-captain Ben Stahl blazed a 290, while Bill LeWorthy, Co-captain Gil Gault, and Hal Yount tied with 279 each. Against Clemson Stahl scored a 388 in a four-position ROTC match. Gault garnered a 378 as Yount and Dick Cuthbert pinned up 372 each. Fran Richwine shot a 367.
